Gold

There's isn't in Charlotte!

Those "We Buy Gold" places are the biggest ripoffs next to a check cashing place!

Basically the math is: Total weight X Karat X Spot Price of gold. Let's say you take your jewelry into the "Doctor" at The Park. Lets say you have 6 grams. First thing he's going to do is determine the Karat. Is it 10K 14K, 18K gold. (Most jewelry will fall into one of these 3 catagories. You are thinking that gold is $1869/ozt. (Troy ounce) There are appoximately 31.5 grams in a troy ounce. So you take your 6 grams, divide by 31.5 and mulitply by the cost of gold. ($1869) That's $356 dollars. and that is near what you expect to get.

Un uh! :hand:There's the Karat weight. 10K is about 41% pure gold. 14K is about 58% and 18K (rare for jewelry) is 75%. So if the gold is 10K. That 6 grams just became 2.46 grams of pure gold! So that means it's worth $150 not $356!

But remember, these "WE BUY GOLD" places are "Middle men"! They have to make a profit by sending it to the smelters! So they expect a 100% Return on investment! (I told you they were a ripoff!) That $150, just became $75! But wait there's more! Out of that $75 they take ther overhead! Usually 50%, some only take 35-45%. (Depends on how much gold.)

That $75, just became about $37.50 - $41.00! So you thought you were going to get $356, he hands you $37! and tells you to be sure to tell all your friends!

I took a on-line course on "How to Buy Gold". They focused more on advertising then they did on service to the customer!

If you don't need the money now. This is the best place I have found to cash in gold.

They will pay you 96% of your gold, once it's refined into 24K. So that 6 grams that is worth $150 of pure gold, you'll get paid about $140!

You are cutting out "The Doctor" and his profits. (My math maybe off, I did it in my head, but you get the idea.)

This is what they refine:

Dang.

I just sold an old wedding ring from my 2nd marriage to a local jeweler (Kevin's Jewelers). 6 grams, 14K and they gave me $120. I think that's what it cost back in 1989. I would have been happy with $30,

I totally forgot I had it and MamaSan found it when she was organizing some of my old boxes.

My wife and I took old gold of hers to Brownlee Jewelers in Charlotte and they gave us an estimate that I was all over, about $1900. She said she wanted to go other places, so we went to Perry's in Southpark and got $2400. An extra five hundred for having some patience.

We've heard others say Perry's gave the best payouts as far as jewelry stores.
