Panthers Scouting Pat White hard

And he would be a good choice if he falls to the second day. I am not sure he would qualify as a second rounder as many folks have touted him. He is a project with a chance to make it. Nothing more.

I wouldnt want the Panthers to pick him up until the third round. We need other postions filled before we pick White up.

As for him being better under Stewart versus Rodriguez, the numbers don't suggest much difference. He threw more TDs and Ints but otherwise the numbers were comparable.

I have his postseason performances, especially the Senior Bowl, more in mind when I say this.

Reasonable, but does your read on this vary based on whether or not we're able to regain a first round pick?

"Once you're labeled by the press or people as a runner, then they want you to be Antwaan Randle El or Kordell 'Slash' Stewart," says West Virginia coach Bill Stewart. "This guy (White) can play quarterback. … This guy is a quarterback."

Sorry Bill. He's a black kid. And as long as he is one, we're gonna assume he cant pass, cant lead, and is better suited using his natural instincts of running and catching. Nevermind he won 5 bowl games at QB and completed 69% of his passes. He's a receiver, and Ill never consider him a QB.

"I think sometimes we penalize athletic quarterbacks by projecting them potentially in other spots," Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said at the workout. "There is nothing that this guy has done in four years that's proven that he can't play the position."

Mike Tomlin is a racist son of a bitch! How dare he say the exact same thing Taharqa is saying in this thread.

I don't believe Mr. Tomlin said the word black, so no, he didn't say what Taharqa said, he isn't the racist...

If Pat White was.. err... white... I would still say he wasn't fit to be a QB in the NFL... It has nothing to do with the color of his skin...

Yeah but you wouldnt be in here telling me he's a receiver or asking him to run routes. You would let him succeed or fail at the position just like the white guys. Every black QB with athletic ability of signifigance has gone thru this bullshit ass. stigma. From Willie Thrower, Marlon Briscoe, Warren Moon on down.

I don't deny that, but you quoted me, and you're bad for lumping us all together...

I guess all us white folks are the same...

No all white folks are not the same. Luckily Pat's white head football coach believes in his ability and is doing the right thing by telling people "HE IS A QUARTERBACK". By the way, Sam you're black.

You specifically have not, but others in this thread have. The sentiment is out there.

Point out specific posts other than the one tongue in cheek post about hating him because he was black where posters have downgraded him because he was black. Point out specific references where instead of pointing out he was a running quarterback or lacked the ability to read defenses, he was too short or other football opinions that people specifically mentioned the race issue until you brought it up and continue to do so over and over.

You can say the sentiment is out there but that is in your mind and opinion but isn't stated specifically. Unless you can find specific references other than in response to you after you brought it up then point them out. What I found repeatedly is that posters have said that whether he was white or black is irrelevant it is because of this or that.

You can feel we are all lying and can say what you want but your constant innuendos are the issue and unwillingness to accept what we say. And that is why you are the one who is predjudiced and making racial remarks rather than the other way around.

So unless you can point out posts where the race issue was brought us before you entered into the discussion then why not back out and let us return to football and go back to the tinderbox. This whole notion that race undercuts every issue is your own paranoia.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
