Only 3 DTs = 3-4 Defense Sunday?

the looks they have been implementing has nothing to do with aiding your team into a transition into a 3-4 base 4 day prior to the start of a season.

For all we know this could have been going on for 2 weeks or even longer. With no media in practice we don't have any idea what they are doing/planning.

Functionally speaking, there's no difference on gameday between "only three active" and "only three on roster".

I suspect we'll have a fourth, but not until next week.

Functionally speaking it is a huge difference to have a fourth DT that is in practice every day and understands what you are trying to do even if he isn't active that game. If someone were to get hurt he wouldn't have to come in off his couch and out of shape in the middle of the week and have to play catch up. You just plug the guy on your roster in.

I hope you are right about us getting a 4th next week if we are staying in a 4-3.

sure we do....we know based on preseason play we are a 4-3 base D. No coach in the NFL is going to go through an entire preseason installing a scheme......and then during the window after preseason game 4 scratch it all and convert his team to a 3-4 prior to week 1.

Perhaps they were installing it during that time and just didn't want to show it in the preseason.

I actually don't think they are going to go 3-4. But it isn't the craziest thing I have ever heard. And looking at our personnel at the moment don't know what we are planning.

But I do have faith in Rivera so I know he knows what he is wanting to do. But we are really, really, really, thin at DT right now. And I am having a hard time grasping why we cut 3 DTs leaving us with only 3 DTs ,66%, of which are rookies and kept 8 linebackers an area where we already have good depth.

We're a Pat Williams and Tony Brown/Tommie Harris signing away from having a solid defense. With that said we'll prob wait until after week 1.

I don't think the Panthers are dumb enough to put their full trust in two rookies. The plan is to make Newton feel comfortable. And if we have to play catch up all game that can stunt his growth.

I wouldn't mind Brown or Harris, but are they healthy enough to play week one? I expect us to sign atleast a scrub for the Zona game.

But seriously how awesome would they look lining up in the 3-4 with some black uniforms?

I have often ponderd this question myself (often while ingesting copious amounts of adult beverages).....not only this but black unis.... and every jersey has a small NC or SC flag on the front to accent our general awesomeness.

Panther fans..

you are a complete joke and are an embarrassment to the team you pull for. you should at least read about simple football concepts before you speak to rival fans and embarrass the rest of us that much more.

sad as it is, I can't talk poo to rival fans because you set the bar sofaking low as one of the most illogical, ignorant fanbases in the NFL..

that speaks volumes after considering Cowboy & Falcon fans..

    • The problem with drafting a DE/EDGE high in the 1st is the bust factor.  That position group busts at a scary rate.  We HAVE to hit our first 3 rounds.  Cant take chances on tweeners or potential guys.
    • Man folks right on this site said Deion was gonna follow his son to the nfl and have a big impact on his draft stock with his interference and yet we have seen no such thing. He just signed an extension to stay in Colorado for the foreseeable future. The only thing we have seen is so called experts try to tank shedeurs stock with false accusations and rumors and deion just had to step in and shut it down. This why you have to stop listening to what certain people say. Too much hate and emotion in most opinions.
    • That's sound logic! I think we could make a case for a few players. I know its not popular  with a few but Warren gives to the  identity we want. Tremble is mostly a blocker. Sanders flashed late but mostly a receiving  threat at the moment. Warren is an automatic 1st down, run blocks, runs the ball and can even line up and throw it. To me he is if you took the Taysom Hill and actually could play tight end too. I just think looking at Goedert, Kelce,  Laporta, Hoeckenson, Baltimore Tight ends, Knox and Kindcaid and etc... all the  last few teams had stellar Tight end play. Warren allows you to be unpredictable  on offense bc he is equally good at being a target, as he is a blocker. Don't want to run Bryce on a qb sneak, plug Warren in with the threat to pass. I would be happy with him, Walker or a few others. As long as the player isn't riding the bench year 1.
