Would you drink waste water?

If you live in Iredell, Davies, Cabarus, Rowan or North Meck, you probably already do.

My good friend's mother runs a waste water treatment company that is responsible for most of that area. I've toured the facilities and even followed along on some of the jobs.

While some areas of the facilities are rather disgusting, the water they produce is as pure (except for the aforementioned pharmaceuticals) as most wells and springs in the area.

As for pharms, the longer we reuse water, (read: the forseeable future) this problem will only get worse no matter where you get your water from. Natural aqueducts are far worse at filtering those out than our own treatment plants.

I thought it was tap water that they ran through the reverse osmosis systems to get bottled water.

WWTP effluent doesn't seem legal to pipe/transport

Usually the effluent is treated to a level that in can be discharged into receiving waters. People swim, boat, and fish in effluent all the time.

yeah, but it's not completely treated water. Discharging to receiving waters relies on dilution.

I don't think they make dasani out of it.

It is. They pump it in from water treatment plants, then further treat it at the plant before bottling.

I've seen with my own eyes an on-site treatment plant, and stood over their filter system.

FYI - I would still drink it. It's actually the cleanest water you'll find on the planet aside from very rare natural springs.
