Everyone Please Chill

Recommended Posts

The sky is not falling, the offseason is not over, and there is still hope for our beloved Carolina Panthers to succeed next year. I have read many absurd posts saying how we have no shot next year, and I can do nothing but shake my head. The main reason for people to panic is depth. Who was Frank Omiyale before we signed him and what round again did we draft Geoff Hangartner. We have Geoff Schwartz and the kid from Bentley whose name I cannot spell as depth, and you can rest assure we will draft and sign some depth. Keydrick Vincent was a low key signing last year and look how he turned out. This is the first time ever where the Panthers are going into a season with the offense pretty much in hand.

Now to the defense. Ron Meeks is going to play a huge role with this defense. His scheme will better fit our players, and he was successful in Indy with less talent. I truly believe Julius is coming back. It reminds me of the Strahan saga in 2007. He sat out until the season and then won a super bowl. He will be paired with Johnson for years to come. Pep, Johnson, and Brayton combined for about 25 sacks last year which is not too bad, and Johnson is only going to improve. The only concern I really have on this team is cornerback depth. There may not be a bigger Richard Marshall hater out there than me and I dont trust CJ Wilson as the Nickel Back. I believe our first pick will be used on a CB. Finally I honestly belive we are signing Robertson. Hopefully Fox can work his magic and resurrect his career. This will also allow us to move Lewis back to his more effective role. This leaves our defense to look like:

Johnson-Kemo-Robertson-Peppers

Diggs-Beason-Davis

Gamble-Harris-Godfrey-Marshall

Reserves: Lewis, Brayton, Connor, Wilson not too shabby ify ou ask me.

So I leave you with this, this team has a lot of talent and there is still a lot of time left in this offseason. So lets not judge this team until its finished.

Though positive, and perhaps rightfully so in some areas, I am not as optimistic.

I truly believe that Peppers will not be here unless Hurney can get a long term deal done to relieve cap room. I don't see that happening and for us to allow Peppers to take up not only a roster spot but 17 mil of cap space so he can piss and moan about wanting to better his talent in another defense. Please. Goodbye. What we get for him is what interests me.

Then you have at the other DE spot Brayton and Johnson. Ehh. Not stellar, but workable with depth. Then DT is a mess. Kemo is great, but also aging. Lewis is too. Thats a problem. Especially in a Cover 2 defense, when we have to get pressure from the D-Line.

Im not worried about the CB depth to be honest with you. Cover 2 is renowned for making ordinary CBs look solid to stellar. If you don't believe me, just remember Jason David before he went to the Saints. Safety needs depth because those guys have a lot of responsibility. I really believe 2 players for sure that will thrive in Meeks' system are Marshall and Godfrey, remember I said that. Linebacker is fine.

Offense doesn't need much. Depth on O-line obviously. Another WR. And depending on how the coaches feel about Moore, another QB. Other than that, Id say we addressed the O pretty well last season.

All in all, we have holes on defense that NEED filling desperately especially on the D-line. That's a problem when you have no cap space, and no first rounder. It's going to be interesting to see Fox and Hurney get it straight, that's for sure. It's already started by releasing Lucas.

hah i dont know guys, say what you want, but we basically have the same exact starting line up of a team that went 12-4 last year. Jake is another year removed from surgery, all 5 starters on our o-line return, we have possibly the most explosive 1-2 running punch in the league, and we had two recievers with over 900 yards on a run first team.

We also have a new D-Coordinator with a defense loaded with talent. (Beason, Davis, Gamble, and Harris) And if Julius stays thats another player you can add to the list. What we are missing is some depth. Pep will work out a long term contract wiht bonuses that will cut down his salary number and we will extend Jake. After that we will have the cap to bring in some O-line and D-Line depth, and we then have the draft.

I basically agree with you vertical - I think the Panthers have no intent on letting Peppers go unless they get a trade offer they can't refuse. I sit here and laugh at the folks who are in despair over the state of this team... we went 12-4 and have 21 of 22 starters coming back next year. According to these folks, we should be more like the Skins or the Cowboys and spend all kinds of $$$ in FA so we can miss the playoffs and start all over again next year.

Everyone does need to chill.... we will fill in some holes and bolster our depth through the draft and some late FA bargin bin pickups.

12-4 team will pretty much stay the same, so I don't understand the SKY IS FALLING reaction in most of the threads !

Peppers stays they may get a DT draft or F/A that will start

Peppers leaves they may get a DT draft or F/A that will start

How many F/A D-lineman are out there that can come in start and make an impact this season ?

Draft D/T 2nd round will he have the skills to start and impact ?

I see Fox & Hurney going after Depth more than starters

A rookie is called a rookie for a reason

A vet F/A has either lost a step or wants to be $$$$$

Otherwise his team would keep him .

For many of these folks what you said is "pearls before swine". And that is not referring to the comic strip or music group.

If you know what I mean...................

While I don't think the sky is falling, OP, here's the problem with what you wrote:

First off, you have NO proof Meeks will change anything. Let's wait til game one to see how he and Fox mesh.

You think Pep is coming back. I'm 50/50 on that. But if he does, where will we be getting the money to sign our draft picks AND the Robertson you covet? He's not going to turn down 17 million dollars for ONE season to sign something long term when he doesn't even want to BE HERE. Be prepared for that being the case. So we can't bring in much depth unless Jake restructures and even that may not do the trick entirely.

I get how you are sick of the doom and gloomers, but the cap issue is a fact if Pep stays. So posters are correct and their "hmm, this may be a crappy situation for us" thougts and their posts deserve fair debate. So...DON'T use "Pep will resign" as a answer and please tell me how we can add depth with Pep getting his almost 17 mil?

I wonder if other teams forums have gay/lame terms such as 'doom and gloom' or 'sky is falling', or is its usage relegated to Panthers fans who think their opinions are better than everyone else's.

If you post something you feel is bad or state a negative fact about the team you're a doom and gloomer, so if you post a positive opinion or fact about the team are you a homer?
