One thing I have noticed....

Zod

I prefer ripping the bandage off quickly.

Bring in a vet DT and still have a losing season with rookies not getting experience?

No thanks.

Why would they not get any experience? That's what a rotation is for. Let them earn more and more time on the field. Get their feet wet before we throw them in and drown horribly.

Well after Ron Rivera gets fired halfway through the first quarter of the Arizona game, I vote Cat'sGrowl for interim head coach!

As if on queue, some of us show why we are football fans for all the wrong reasons.

I hope you aren't referring to me bc I have been a panther fan just as long as any of you and I have defended them through 1-15 and 2-14 so don't question me as a fan. All I'm saying is that what Zod said is right but to a point. Yes this is a rebuilding year and we shouldn't expect playoffs but what Zod said is also stupid in thinking that we should just sit back and expect the panthers to play badly and be happy about it. When running backs are plowing thru our line with little effort I WILL NOT be happy or think "well as long as we are better next year it's ok". And I think anyone who does think that is dilusional.

We should always expect the panthers to put the best team possible on the field and while I'm totally happy with the offense I'm concerned about the defense and I don't agree with what they are choosing to do. Hurney an Rivera both said they needed to add players at corner and defensive tackle and so far they added a rookie who had hamstring problems thoughout the preseason. I'm all for upgrading depth in hopes of finding a diamond in the rough but they should be looking at other avenues for help at those positions.

whether you agree with the OP or not I doubt anybody on this site will be happy with a loss. We just want to see our players play hard to win games. I dont think Zod or anybody will jump for joy if we see running backs destroy our DT's on every play like they did during preseason. Young or not if they are blown off the ball every play and do not show improvement throught the season I dont want them playing. Remember IRvin was a 3rd rounder and the guy isnt on the team anymore.

Regardless of record this team is going to be more fun to watch this season. Just enjoy the ride. If you want to hope for a massive turnaround you go right ahead. As for me, I will be hoping specific players burst out, Cam progresses, and we are competitive in most games. If we get 6-7 wins while that stuff happens, then wonderful!

Like someone said, it will be so much sweeter for those of us that have stuck around during the poo years when we starting kicking the NFC South's ass.

Some of you are still under the impression that the Panthers are trying to piece together a playoff team this year.

They aren't.

Right now they are more interested in young guys who show the most promise. They plan to crack open a window of contention that will last roughly 5-6 years starting as early as next season.

So if the Panthers do sign a rookie DT that shows promise, be happy. If they sign a second year WR that has the potential to be a solid #2 in this league... be happy.

In short, get your head out of your collective asses and start thinking in years, not weeks.

Love,

Zod

I agree with you on the WR front. Wtih the running game, great TE's, and Smitty....we have enough offensive weapons to be competitive and allow the young WR's to grow.

However, we DO NOT have that luxury on the defensive line. I like the young guys we have at DT. They have nice upside. However, by adding a mid tier veteran presence at DT and maybe DE, the DLine become more than servicable. You still allow the young guys to develop.

I will be very pissed if we do not add a vet DT and/or DE to the mix. It is a small cost that will be competetive this season and not hinder our development.

no. what we should have done was gotten a DT in the first round and had Jimmy Clausen starting again this year..

Not Jimmy but a vet like Hasselbeck and maybe draft Andy Dalton to push Jimmy out the door.

You have your Quarterback now (and in the future) and your DL is in great shape as well

looking at the big picture and what they are trying to build is a solid team that will be around for a long time and competitive year in and year out. it's going to take some time.

i expect to see some ugliness out there as well as a good bit of losses on the way to building that team. these are young guys and they will have to take their knocks along the way. but it's those knocks, losses and mistakes that are going to help them grow into a solid team.

none of us are going to be happy with losses, but the hope is that we will see growth, improvement, and flashes of brilliance to let us have an idea of what lies ahead.

what i don't expect to see is giving up like last year. i expect the team to keep their heads up and enjoy what they are doing...not satisfied with losing, but happy with what they are building together.

it's going to require patience.
