WR corps: The annual elephant in the room

honestly can't remember when the last time we had WR targets better than what we have this year.......plus you can't fix everything overnight.

Smitty, Olsen, Shockey, random dude off the street.....are better recieving targets than what we have put on the field in probably half a decade. Scheme playing a role.

Truth. When you include Olsen and Shockey, definitely the best receiver corp we've had in years.

WR corp may not be (time will tell), but it's not like we've exactly had much competition. The WR group definitely isn't on par with Smitty, Muhammed, and Proehl, but our TE's that year (Kris Mangum, Mike Seidman, Jermaine Wiggins) weren't keeping any DC's up at night.

As I've said all along, all we need if for one guy at WR to step up besides Smitty for this offense to have another element. Still don't know if we have that guy, and yes, given his history, Smitty may not play 16 games.

Cam's development is going to define this season, and as bad as it sounds given the Foxball we've endured, we do need our offense to be efficient and score points but do some level of ball-control seeing how bad the defense has looked.

I have faith in Rivera and McDermitt making these guys better, but they are not going to morph into a respectable unit overnight, and maybe not this year.

I'm pretty excited about Ajirotutu, but I also got really excited about Keyshawn and DJ Hackett and every other WR we've signed that was supposed to finally provide a balance across from Smith.

If we can get this defense straightened out before then I would love to use our #1 pick on a real WR prospect next year.

Don't forget Kevin Dyson and Rod Gardner on that list.

I know in next years draft we really have a few spots we need more than a WR, but if we have a top 6 pick (which we might, from the looks of the team), then you'd be insane to pass up on Jeffery or Blackmon, whoever is left on the board.

There isn't a star CB next year if we pick that high, or DT tbh.

Then again, that's next year. Hopefully tutu can break out for us.

Why do people treat Smitty like he is a god. 2005 was a long time ago. QB play shouldn't be an issue because people act like he preserved though Delhomme's bad QB play, and took every three yard pass to the house.

He is still good, but this is the year for him to prove he is still a #1.

Smitty isn't a god, but he's the best we got---so much so that the opposition will double-team him with impunity when there is no credible threat on the other side. 2005? He wasn't exactly chop liver in 2006-2008. Still one of the toughest, competitive receivers out there. Of course he's had some durability issues of late, but this is another reason we need to get him a legitimate, credible, proven threat on the other side. Smitty's not a god.

Wideouts are a dime a dozen. The defense absolutely must take priority going forward.

Where are all these dime a dozen wide-outs? If the last 5 years is any indication, then we need to stop rubbing two nickels together over the bargain bin in Wal-mart, and take an Abe Lincoln down to the Goodwill.

CB wise, in two years time: Hosley (VaTech). He's gonna be something in this league.

Ajirotutu looks like he could either step it up and be a stud or become a DJ Hackett as mentioned. The plus? This guy is coming from the Chargers whereas we were previously betting on a Seattle receiver and even an old cancer in Keyshawn. Don't forget letting Moose return to give us more time to find someone. Obviously that didn't happen but don't forget a new regime is in place.

That Chargers offense knew how to make playmakers out of no names and maybe we can do that here with some time.

Given we finally have pass catching TEs and a new system, a #2 and slot need to be serviceable. We have Gettis gone but don't forget he'll be back next year to shine. If you have Smitty-Shockey-Olsen-Ajirotutu-Naane-LaFell-Edwards to pass to, I think its manageable especially given our bigger concerns at CB and DT. A young WR just has to work out for us someday and what better time than with a new regime

Everybody is thinking this year, which is understandable, but we are a YOUNG team. This years WR is the most depth talent wise at WR then i can ever remember plus most of them are young. Give Cam and are WR to get a groove with eachother and our offense has extreme potential. Excited for this years offense and BEYOND!..............now lets get that D sured up
