Charger fan thoughts

I don't doubt it, but the problem is that I can't remember a star WR being cut, save for Brandon Lloyd (and he only has 1 yr under his belt as a star). He cursed Chicago and Washington for cutting him, but it may have been his work ethic (don't know). Anyway, I hope Ajirotutu is that guy.

That said, he was cut because he is another guy, and they believe that Rivers made him what he was, not the other way around. He will be a good player, but don't expect no. 1 status out of him.

To a certain extent, think Deion Branch in Seattle, except not quite that good.

I'm not buying it. Numbers game my ass. If he was that good San Diego would have kept him. Don't get me wrong, I hope he does well here. But I think you guys are working yourself up for a disappointment.

Tutu didnt impress after the texan game (who had the worst pass D in the league.) He didnt get much separation and once VJ came back he was odd man out last year. This year he was a victim of the numbers game. The chargers kept 6 WRs. VJ, Floyd, Crayton our 3rd round draft choice and the other 2 Goodman is our gunner and probably punt return guy and Walters lit it up in preseason and may be the kick return and/or punt return. With San Diegos Special Teams so abysmal last year the chargers focused on keeping guys who could play them as well as their position. We kept 11 Linebackers. Wouldve loved if you guys took stephen cooper off our hands to make room for Tutu.

Did you guys pick up JWall? Dude is most likely done unfortunately. Youd be getting a shell of himself. He was one of the best though.

I'm pretty encouraged about TuTu.

As a Charger fan who attends about a dozen practices a year and has watched every game this team has played in the last 20 years 2-3 times, I can tell you without doubt that the Charger fans in that thread are hugely overestimating Tutu's capabilities. He became something of a cult-hero because he made two big TD catches against the Texans, but it just can't be ignored that he was WIDE open on both and not really through any talent of his own. I just don't want you guys to set yourselves up for disappointment because you talked to the most rah-rah Bolt fans.

Don't get me wrong, Tutu has talent. He's got a good balance of size, speed, and quickness. He's not a guy who separates, though, and once he got on the radar vs. the Texans, our next few opponents had no trouble containing him.

That being said, he was raw last year, fresh off the practice squad in his rookie season.

Now here's the good news: When training camp opened this year he was easily our most effective receiver. Now, VJ, Floyd, and Gates hadn't arrived yet, so that has to be taken with a grain of salt, but Tutu hugely improved the consistency of his route-running. If he makes it, it will be because he continues to work on his technique. He has shown that when he's precise in his routes he can work zone coverage, the comeback patterns, and the flats. He's fairly bright, and doesn't seem to have any character issues. Don't look for him to become a consistent deep-threat, and definitely don't pencil him in as a #1. He can be a quality #2, but he lacks the explosiveness of a true NFL #1, IMO.

Then that is better than anything we have had since Moose retired. I hope he turns into a quality #2 WR. If that happens, our WR corps doesn't look so bad.

only 1 was a draft choice. He was drafted because come next year we could lose VJ and we werent expecting to retain floyd this year until his last minute signing. The other 2 we need for our historically bad special teams unit. Goodman was on our PS last year and played and caught 1 ball and broke his fingers and Walters is an UDFA who brings more versatility than Tutu. Tutu could be good. Id rather have him on the team than Walters but Tutu is an unskilled not as tall version of what we already have in floyd and VJ.

I'm glad we're giving him a shot. He's got the size, the speed, the intelligence, system knowledge and we have literally nothing but a roster spot invested in him. I really see another David Gettis type, which is a good thing.

I would have rather seen Braylon Edwards or Jerricho Cotchery come to town. Guys in the league over the past few years that have made plays and are mentioned in highlights week in and out. I know Braylon had troubles but hands down has more talent on his cleat than Tutu or Nenee has receiving. San Fran got a steal with him for 1 year at a lil over $3 million. Heck Gamble is paid more than double that to get burned by backups so why not? The only way we are going to get better is to quite running on players with hope and promise, and get out there and get the players that do it!
