CB's in next years Draft.

I believe it's safe to say that the Current Cornerback situation is mediocre. Even with Chris Gamble, that just gets criticized on a consistent basis. Some on these boards would like to cut the guy, I won't get into how stupid that is but, I will get into the incoming Corner back class in next years draft. Good news is, it's a DEEP CB draft Class!

In no particular order.

1. Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

Height: 6-3. Weight: 190.

40 Time: 4.46.

The guy has the speed and size, I've watched him in a couple of games. If he learns how to use his body correctly the guy can be a top 5 CB in the league.

2.Stephon Gilmore, CB/PR, South Carolina

Height: 6-1. Weight: 190.

40 Time: 4.48.

Another SEC CB that is to be is under rated. He did get burned in that game against Auburn but his body of work is there. I wouldn't dismiss his ability over one game. (I'm not a gamecock fan by the way.)

3. Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

Height: 5-10. Weight: 195.

40 Time: 4.45.

Scouts say that this guy is better than Prince Amukamara, Prince is no joke. I did catch a couple games last year and the guy is a press corner. He's fast as well.

4. Cliff Harris, CB/PR, Oregon

Height: 5-11. Weight: 180.

40 Time: 4.40.

One of my Favorite Cb's in the draft. I watch a lot of the Pac-10 (Pac-12 now) games and his return ability is such a plus. Forget the return ability his coverage ability is what I really like about the guy. He has great speed and adequate size. If he slides to the second round I'd want this guy. I doubt he slide down though.

5. Jayron Hosley, CB/PR, Virginia Tech

Height: 5-10. Weight: 172.

40 Time: 4.48.

I've seen this guy several games before, he's a legit CB. The drop off from Harris isn't very far. He's basically Cliff Harris 2.0.

6. Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia

Height: 6-0. Weight: 185.

40 Time: 4.46.

This guy is under rated, and under the radar in my book, he could slide to 2nd maybe even 3rd round. Fast, physical, good size, weight. Unfortunately he plays for Virginia..

7. Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Height: 5-10. Weight: 188.

40 Time: 4.45.

Former gator, did work in Florida. Great speed, could use a little more size, but he covers great. Playing in the SEC he did fine. But unfortunately he got kicked out and now he's playing for North Alabama. He'll slide because of character issues. But I doubt he goes after the 3rd round. The talent is there.

For us, we need one of these guys, I'm not dismissing Brandon Hogan. But we need more depth at that position. I believe that it will all depend on where we draft. If we have a top 3 pick, I know we won't be picking up a CB that high. Maybe in the second round for sure. All these guys are top talent CB's which is great because we actually have our 2nd round draft pick. Picking a CB in the 2nd would be OK. Some of these guys might slide because other teams won't be needing a CB as badly as we do. I honestly see us doing this, picking a CB in the 2nd. If, only if we have a very high draft choice and opt to pick another position with the #1. One thing for sure, we need to pick up another CB somehow next year, draft preferably, since we will build through the draft.

A tidbit on Janoris Jenkins:

In one-on-one coverage for most of the three games, he held the trio of South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffery, Georgia’s A.J. Green and Alabama’s Julio Jones to an average of 4.7 receptions for 38 yards with one combined touchdown between the three. In their other games, that trio averaged 102.5 yards on 6.3 receptions and combined for 24 touchdowns.

Gilmore is great with the ball in his hands. Do not know how I feel about him as a corner, though. Everyone else likes him, so I guess I don't know what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm just too hard on him, as some are on Gamble. Would be nice to see a CB prospect really burst forth and get to us in the Draft, but as I've said, we have so much young talent there, I'll be disappointed if at least one or two of them don't pan out. Really looking forward to Hogan coming back.
