A guy once told me he was going to go rape my sister while she was in the hospital with a serious illness, which prompted me to beat him within an inch of his life and go to jail for a short while because of it. Those words were plenty to put me over the edge, and I consider myself a pretty laid-back person. So yes, words can do a lot.

Certainly that guy was way way way past out of line and I don't know your history on this other than this post. I can't judge you or your situation. I just don't see a need to counter inflammatory words alone with fists. If I were a guy I PROBABLY (again, just knowing what you said alone) would have made sure a big friend or I was in the hospital room at all times and if that turd came in to start something, made sure I took him out at that point he tried something. But I realize that being in the situation may make one feel differently if there was a threat to a family member involved as was the case with you (which by all accounts wasn't the case with Smitty and Luc).

And did Ken Lucas even get a single punch in during that fight? I think Smitty pretty much did all of the hitting. I think Beason hurt Smitty more pulling him off than Lucas did during the whole fray. Not that I condone that sort of thing.

I believe the pictures from the incident showed Luc on top of Smitty getting a few hits in.
