David Clowney waived, yet Armanti makes the team again?

It's pretty simple. The team is more invested in Armanti than they are in Clowney. The coaches kept him because of his ability to return, and potential to be a good receiver. He gave them enough improvement over last year to warrant keeping him.

Also, the players earn their keep based on practice and preseason games so we judge on what we see which is nothing compared what the coaches see.

armanti can run a wildcat and has a great arm. he is a much more versatile player. he can return punts, catch passes, and throw the ball.

You'd think this was clearly evident to everyone, but when someone dares others to prove something, it's likely they seek comforting and confirmation of their own beliefs instead of reason and rationale. Great effort to share the truth in spite of the obvious reluctance to accept it.

The pick we traded for Armanti turned out to be the 33rd overall pick in 2011 draft, while Clausen was picked 48th in 2010. You know some players we could have selected with that 33rd pick this year? Cornerbacks like Marcus Gilchrist or Aaron Williams, both of which have torn it up this preseason. How about Da'Quan Bowers? Ugh,it just sickens me.

There's your answer, we have a lot invested in Edwards, we're going to see it through. Dropping a 1st and the 1st pick in the 2nd round the last couple years on the same day? Probably afraid Panther fans might burn down BofA.

All we have invested in Clowney is a roster spot..

High draft picks are like marriages, for Better or for Worse.

Believe it or not it could be worse.

We divorced Everett Brown today, let's see if we can make Armanti work.

I'll admit I wasn't a fan of the armanti pick from a football standpoint (transitioning qb to play WR at the Div 1AA level), but even I have been surpised this preseason. He has been our only receiver who got open consistently. Sure his hands arn't good in traffic..but I believe that has more to do with his confidence playing the position.

I don't dislike Clowney, but Armanti is younger with much more potential. I'll trust the coaching staff on this one. They obviously feel Armanti is more valuable than Clowney and the other WR's cut.

I think it comes down to one thing. Coach Rivera and his staff showed today with cutting Brown that they aren't afraid to cut players that are "Hurney picks". That being said it would appear that they simply saw more from AE that they did from Clowney. It appears that BAMF is making the decisions (based on some of the pickups we've made) and they seem to think that Edwards offers more potential. Anyone who's read a post of mine knows that I am a big fan of AE's and hope he will continue to improve. He's worked harder than any player to try and improve and I think he will continue to do so. Let's just give him a chance. He might suprise some people. And if he doesn't then I feel sure that Coach R will do what thinks is best.

Armanti Edwards - 6 rec 76 yards 12.7 avg

Punt returns - 6 10.5 avg 24 long

David clowney - 3 rec 50 yards 16.7 avg 41 long 1 touch down

Stats wise, Edwards performed better then clowney........ Potential wise Edwards is better ummmmm yeah i think that should be good enough reason.

You forgot fumbles and drops

Not bad, he did play against 1st teams in every game didn't he? If he can bulk up and add 15-20 pounds then this kid should be able to be similar to Smitty. I know Edwards is still a bit raw but he has got to get some strength to battle defenders for the ball and he has got to work on his hands. I am hoping a year of experience should change this. We already have one WR that can't catch so we can't have another one.

I made this point elsewhere, but I think this deserves its own thread.

I want someone to come up with an argument that David Clowney deserved to be cut over Armanti Edwards based solely on their preseason play. Go ahead, I can't wait to read them.

And before you say "BUT BUT BUT ARMANTI'S CEILING IS THROUGH THE ROOOOOOOOF!!!!" I want you to point to something Armanti Edwards has done since he joined this team that points to him having any kind of high ceiling whatsoever. Don't use anything he did against teams like Elon either, only point to things he's done as a member of the Carolina Panthers.

He sucked last preseason, last regular season, and this preseason. So did Jimmy Clausen and Clausen is nearly universally reviled on this site now (and rightfully so). Why the double standard? The pick we traded for Armanti turned out to be the 33rd overall pick in 2011 draft, while Clausen was picked 48th in 2010. You know some players we could have selected with that 33rd pick this year? won't matter what is said, cause you are baised.

Get over it already.
