No Will Allen

No they just don't give them Jake-style extensions.

They take chances on older players and ones viewed past their prime all the time, like Will Allen. Examples off the top of my head:

Junior Seau

Randy Moss

Ochocinco

Tyrone Poole

there's plenty more, but I don't feel like researching...

Only one of those wasn't a DAMN good player still when they brought him in....

Will Allen was considered a shutdown corner before his injuries 2-3 years ago. He became expendable after they got two outstanding young corners in Smith and Davis... He's 33, not 40... If he's healthy, he'd be exactly what we need for the time being. Many CBs with talent have played into their late 30s.

There is a huge difference in the talent level of Ocho Cinco' date=' Shaun Ellis and even Albert Haynesworth then Will fuging Allen. The guy isn't even that great, he's just the best option of the trash available. It's pretty obvious if you look at the make up of the team what our FO and coaching staff is doing. They are building a YOUNG team that can be a contender for awhile several years down the line. You don't do that by bringing in a stop gap CB to take playing time away from the young guys you believe in. Like I said if there was a young proven CB out there I would fully understand why you're pissed but that's just not the case....I see you have admitted defeat on the asinine assumption you made....keep raging, this staff has a plan in place and it's pretty fuging obvious from the moves we're making...[/quote']

lol. I believe this is where I'm supposed to say "u mad bro?"

No, stop it with that logic! Oh yeah, oh yeah? Well Will Allen sucks!! Ha! Take that!"

Lol...

Seau was 37 or 38 when they signed him.

Many thought Moss was done (I didn't and suspected he was just sandbagging in Oakland), and possibly had lost a step - even though he hadn't... they didn't know that and took a chance.

Poole was 32 or so when they signed him, don't feel like doing the math... He was never a world beater, good fill-in starter everywhere he went. Further proves my case for Will Allen.

And Ocho is clearly not what he was 3-4 years ago.

I think you need to expand your thinking some, whatever your jibberish name is, a young player doesn't have to start for a coach to evaluate him. You personally do not have to see the player play for it to be okay for the organization to cut him. It all goes back to not blatantly losing games just so you can have clear conscious about cutting a player.

I mean so what if he was terrible in practice! If we had handed the starting job over to him, he might have become a HoFer!!

Teams just don't operate that way.

If a player is good, he will show that in practice and earn his way to the top. You don't intentionally lose games hoping a player will develop into an all star.

Rodeny Harrison, Adalius Thomas, Corey Dillon...Geez you could go on forever with this team.

Adalius Thomas had 11 fuging sacks the year before NE signed him...he was far from "past his prime" do some fuging research man...

Rodney Harrison had 86 combined tackles the year before he signed....

Will Allen missed the entire fuging season last year and only played in 6 games in 2009.....HUGE DIFFERENCE...

And that begs the question...is he even healthy...maybe he can't even help this team at all. The people bashing on the FO for not signing a 33 year old guy who's missed the better part of two seasons with injuries need to really stop. ..and please, the only "shutdown" corners in the NFL are Revis, Aso and Bailey you maybe could throw Woodson in there....Will Allen was NEVER in that club....

For starters, we aren't comparing Will Allen to Adalius Thomas, we are comparing Will Allen to Josh Thomas-that's the point at hand. Will Allen is better than Josh Thomas. He would be an upgrade. Nobody is trying to say Will Allen is going to be a Pro Bowler here. We are saying he will be an upgrade, and that is the issue at hand.

I said before his injuries...

You're talking about guys right now.

And yes, he's healthy unless something changed, he was available to play in the pre-season, but they had projected him to be their Nickel.

This.

That's why some people have a problem with what we're doing right now. If we're keeping Thomas to develop, great, but why not shore up the spot with a guy was a highly-regarded starter a couple years ago, if he's healthy?

It wouldn't hurt.

I never said he wasn't an upgrade I said he didn't fit with the MO of getting younger that we've been doing for the past two years. Obviously he wasn't what Rivera or McDermott wanted so that's good enough for me. Check back to the CB cuts thread I even said Will Allen would be one of my top choices because he is the best CB available, I just had a feeling his age would make the FO pass. The FO isn't going to change their MO because we want them to and I fully expect our first round pick to be a CB....

As far as Adalius Thomas I was simply showing how moronic it was to say Adalius Thomas was past his prime when the Pats signed him....
