Seyi Ajirotutu, WR from Chargers claimed

The SD board on Scout is pretty pissed Tutu was released, several think it was a big mistake and saw him as their eventual 1.

It would be awesome if he could end up being ours and it is very possible with Smith getting old and lack of talent behind him. I hope Ron will use our receivers the most effective way possible and not pull a John Fox and always use favorites over talent.

Think I'll start a thread there asking about Legs, Tutu and Jamaal Williams, see what I can get out of them.

isn't there already?

I didn't know Ajirotutu was a rookie last year. I thought this was his third or 4th year. Given the fact he was only a rookie last year I think this kid has a good chance of developing into our best receiver once Smith is gone.

Yeah, but a little perspective - reality check.

1) SD fans are worried 'bout VJack leaving after the year - probable.

But even he was 4-5 years in the making. Seyi is "starting" his second yr.

Look for him to contribute mostly on special teams this year.

2) Seyi would have never left the practice squad last year, if not for all the injuries and VJack holdout. Philip completed passes to "17" different players last year. He made a lot of "them" look good.

3) Philip Rivers. Whatever you think about him, he really is that good. Plus, he's been in the league for seven years. Everything you got rests on the shoulders of Cam Newton.

Accuracy, poise - it's gotta develop.

4) Ajirotutu was scalding the Texans - the worst pass defense in the league last year. Maybe, the last 20 years. They were awful.

Overall, Seyi deserves a roster spot, somewhere, but he has got a lot to learn.

Still he is young and talented and a good get for ya'll.

I was about to make a thread about these SD Wide receivers we have been getting. I know they already have played in the offense we run but how good are they without Rivers? Both Naanee and Ajirotutu have good stats considering the playing time they received and being buried in the depth chart but is Rivers the reason why their stats are that good? are their stats inflated? can they produce without Rivers? I have a lot of faith in Ajirotutu but he could be a product of a great QB.

Buried in the depth chart - LA started in VJack's absence start of season and Ajirotutu was an undrafted free agent on the practice squad this time last year. Neither played enough to accumulate any "stats" for the year. But yes, Rivers does make a "huge" difference. And these guys experience with Philip can only help Cam grow and mature. Again, it all depends on your quarterback. He's got to deliver.

I can't say that, SO FAR, even the Nanee signing gives me a lot of confidence in Rivera's evaluation of WRs. I did not see him running crisp routes or getting much separation during pre-season. Maybe that will change during the regular season? This guys sounds intriguing, but I don't care how tall or fast the guy is...I just care that he can 'produce' on the field. We will see.

I think Naanee was brought in to be more of a goal line threat if the tight ends are covered. He doesn't seem fast or that good of a route runner, but he's big enough (and hopefully has the hands) to be a goal line threat.
