Everette Brown Waived!

You have to remember Hurney is only part of the equation.

Tony Softli was the head of scouting for the first few years, replaced later by Don Gregory who started strong but has been kind of up and down over the past two years.

Remember hearing some talk that the team was cutting back in the scouting department. Not something I wanted to hear :(

I dont feel like going over other teams 1st round picks the last 9 years but that list is impressive.

It's been done. A few times.

And let me just break the suspense a little: posters like thefuzz tend to just fade away with a whimper when it's done.

He's not the worst trade, but he is the worst draft pick.

Who did the Panthers give up more for that did less?

There's a mitigating circumstance as to why the Panthers did it, but it doesn't change the fact.

I would put the Gilbert trade down as the worst, he was serviceable at best while he was here. And as far as draft choices, you've probably repressed the whole Rashard Anderson memory. Sorry about bringing him up.

But Brown was easily one of Hurney's biggest mistakes. Here's hoping Newton makes up for it, although if he does you can bet a ton of posters here will forget that he was ever considered a risk.

gave up a 2nd in 1998, two drafts prior, so not even close.

like good christ i've written paper fuging bricks about both the everette brown trade and what went in to it and Hurney's career as a whole. Every single time some no name poo poster thinks their one liner is "just like their opinion man" and get awfully butt hurt when I have to inform them that their opinion is, in fact, terrible and here's seven paragraphs explaining why.

now thefuzz is the latest no name poo poster that thinks their opinion is just as good as anyone else's because this is america or some stupid bullpoo and I'm sick of it. I'm not going to go through and annihilate his terrible post sentence by sentence.

I know that's what everyone is waiting for but I've done it too many times about this very subject and if thefuzz wants to be terribly misinformed but be warm and secure in the comfort of the misbelief that he knows what he's talking about then live and let live right

It's ok man. I'm a no-name poo poster too. We should all be eradicated. The internet is serious business. I'm sure you're always right. I wish I was you.

I'd be okay with the team releasing Clausen, honestly.

He's in a situation where he needs a fresh start, and he isn't going to find that here. And we're in a situation where we could use that roster spot for someone else that could actually contribute.

I think we need to 'sit' on Clausen for a while. If next pre-season or the following, he shows significant progress, there will be teams that will give up at least a 3-5th round pick for him. Look at what Atlanta was able to do with Schaub or other examples.

Not saying Clausen will do that, but maybe at least become above average so we can get 'something' for another wasted 2nd round pick (the Panthers would probably keep 3 QBs on the roster anyway, so I'd rather have this option than the merry-go-round of 'developmental' 6-7th rounders like we've had for the past 8+ years).

I'm not defending him in a vacuum, I'm defending him from your shrieking, ludicrous accusations.

OK fiz....you got me. He is a really good GM, and I am thankful that he is on our side.

Consistent winners, and always a playoff threat...yup those are my Panthers.

Thank you Marty Hurney.

Worst trade of picks is what I was pointing out there.

oh so you brought up something completely unrelated to what I was talking about? good job.

Does that really matter? We spent a first on him, and got pretty much nothing in return.

yeah as a matter of fact taking cost into consideration does matter a lot.

Not fade away, we actually have lives and jobs that we pay more attention to than a message board.

You nor anyone else will ever be able to convince me that Hurney handled these things correctly:

QB situation.

Delhomme extension.

Peppers situation.

Drafting 2 RB's and 2 LB's (in a 4-3) in the 1st round within 5 years.

Mortgaging future picks on Brown and Edwards.
