I was really hoping he would take the next step eventually but I guess that's just the way things go sometimes.

This is a really good sign that the organization is changing a bit, we aren't going to waste our time and precious roster spots on bad prospects.

I remember watching a highlight tape of Brown in college and thinking "he sure does have a lot of near misses". Loads of plays he was just a step away from having a sack or a pressure, but somehow just didn't get there.

The hope, I suppose, was that he'd eventually get to the point where he was making that last step a little faster, but it never seemed to happen.

I also remember watching in minicamp where then-DL coach Brian Baker was trying to coach him on more techniques. In college and early on he did a fair amount of dip-and-rip, but as time went on he became more and more of a spinning top (trying to be Freeney, I guess, which is what we drafted him to be).

like good christ i've written paper fuging bricks about both the everette brown trade and what went in to it and Hurney's career as a whole. Every single time some no name poo poster thinks their one liner is "just like their opinion man" and get awfully butt hurt when I have to inform them that their opinion is, in fact, terrible and here's seven paragraphs explaining why.

now thefuzz is the latest no name poo poster that thinks their opinion is just as good as anyone else's because this is america or some stupid bullpoo and I'm sick of it. I'm not going to go through and annihilate his terrible post sentence by sentence.

Brown was one of Hurney's bigger mistakes, along with Jarrett and Shelton. But he certainly didn't cripple the franchise, and anyone who followed the Panthers in the 90s shouldn't say he was the worst pick or pick trade in Franchise history.
