Everyone makes mistakes, even the Pats have made some bad choices with top draft picks. Its going to happen. Your not going to have a great draft every year, every trade you make isn't always going to work out and every free agent signing doesn't always end up the way they planned. Its how the NFL works, its life get over it.

At the time of the draft Hurney thought that prototype DEs were becoming more rare, and was willing to take a chance on a smaller DE. Huge mistake.

idk hurney gets a lot of poo but when you really sit there and line his resume up with other GM's in the league he's not bad.

delhomme pretty much forgot how to play football instantly and hurney was given the difficult task of replacing a franchise QB within 2 years time. sure the clausen pick was fuging stupid but meh you win some you lose some. there is more to being a gm than just draft picks.

The Good: Hurney is now waiving his failures sooner than later

The drafting of Brown was two-fold --- desperate for a DE and a DC that favored undersized, athletic/quick DE's. Hurney reached, gave up too much, but got the guy that the former Coaching staff thought would fit what they wanted. A GM that listens to his advisors and fits the blueprints that the franchise wants in his eyes. If Brown turned into Freeney (like many expected), then Hurney is looking like a genius. He swung, missed and now Brown is out. Just like this franchise's new blueprint and coaching staff favors a TE in the offense, Hurney went out and hit a homerun with Olsen (and Shockey). You can criticize Hurney for making mistakes, but it's a little self-righteous to expect the man to be mistake-free. Not to mention, that his moves aren't headscratchers as much as places like Buffalo, Oakland, Cincy, and San Francisco.

He has a great spin move. Unfortunately, he never developed anything else.

I gave pretty tempered praise when asked for an opinion and left the door very much open that he could be a bust all while pointing out he couldn't gain much more weight and there was a knock against him getting production against poor competition. This while other people were claiming he's the next Freeney.

It's called Hurney's law.

For every really good player pickup a GM makes, they must make an equally bad bonehead pickup.

I might add most of the good GMs don't follow this law.
