National Cam haters haven't watch Panthers

I got no problem w/ Cam not hitting Smitty on that route. Smitty has proven his YAC magic ain't what it was of years past. I will take Cam running w/ a lead blocker like Smith any day in open space.......vs Smitty at this stage of his career on his own.

 Okay

Whatever makes you more comfortable.

So are you saying he's a run first QB and that's what you want him to be?

LOL.

DID NOT SAY NOR WAS IMPLYING CAM WAS READY PEOPLE. HE IS NOT. But that is okay.

Point is based on what we have seen in recent years......there is a reason for optimism. The national media has people on every corner trying to paint it as desperation of a team.

If you watched the prior years leading up to the start of the regular season.....we have a reason to be optimistic for a change.....that is the point!

Cam hit the top of his drop and took off, before letting Smith's route get to where it needs to be.

He needs to have that anticipation to be successful. 1 extra hit he didn't need in his career and it's not like Cam made anyone miss, he got tackled a yard after he came up to the first defender.

You can make all the excuses you want to defend it, bad decision by Cam rooted in some of his deep weaknesses.

Smitty hasn't proven his YAC magic isn't what it used to be. He's dealt with quarterbacks that have no idea how to get him the ball in the right place.

That isn't true. In 05 Smitty could take a smoke route 10 yards or more (endless potential). Doesn't have that to the degree he did years ago....his YAC and ability in open space is evaluated with QB play taken out of the equation.

He isn't the same guy. Still a top WR but he isn't as dangerous in certain scenarios he use to be. That isn't something that is being based off of 2010 alone.

Again, Cam is not a traditional QB. The best option is NOT always going to be letting his WRs do there assigned job on a play.

You want to spin his greatest strength as a weakness. It isn't. That is the core of it.

FTR, Cam also saw a major blitz coming in that would have sacked him had JStew not done a remarkable job of getting there just in time..

I hardly blame Cam for running in that instance when those 2 lanes opened up wide as hell for him with 20+ yards in front of him..

I think the discussion is now getting off topic from what really occurred on that play..

It's sad you have to bash Smitty for no reason other than to defend a poor decision by Cam.

again, that is spin. classic trolling from you.

Claiming the 2011 Steve Smith is not the same caliber WR as early in his career......is not bashing. There is a reason Smitty was pumped after that play. Cam in open space....with Smitty a lead blocker in open space....is a GREAT scenario that Cam should of taken advantage of. The potential for that was IMO greater than attempting to hit Smitty on the route he was running. Smitty is one of the best and most underrated blockers in the NFL.

Not to be a downer, but preseason production doesn't really mean much.

You might mean this in the negative connotation, but let me put a positive spin on this train of thought.

From what I've seen in the Preseason... they have held Newton back. His runs have been jogs. The vast majority of his passes have been short attempts (15 to 25 yards). I know he can run faster. I know he can throw farther.

We have not seen Newton fire it all up... wait till they cut him loose... he's gonna wow this fanbase and the league before the end of the year.

I think you're starting to see the "real" haters come out of the woodwork. By real haters I'm talking about the people that just hate cam in general. Some people on hear believe that Cam shouldn't start but they at least back it up with points and counterpoints and so on and so on.

The real haters are the people that only come back with "he's a lair" or "he's a thief" or the classic

Friend: "he won't make it in the NFL"

me: why

Friend:"because he just won't, I've got a knack for picking out bust".

(ignore the fact he goes to Bama)

This is the argument my friend tried to give to me this morning. Go look at the comments on the observer article today and you'll see plenty of people like that.

Cam isn't perfect and he shouldn't be he's a rookie...but leave your personal hate at the door please.

watch the play again, they sent a strong blitz. he found an opening and took off, which was the right thing to do in that scenario. The gain would have been about the same or even less if he had thrown it.
