National Cam haters haven't watch Panthers

you're right that he wasn't looking at Smitty. He looks down field, which is good, but he sometimes needs to learn to find the receivers open that aren't just deep downfield. One of the complaints about him in the past was not taking the short routes the defense was giving him to wide open guys, and this is another case of that. However, this time, he made a nice play with his legs to get the first down, so meh. I still believe that as he gets more comfortable he will throw that ball to Smitty, but for now... he's moving the offense how he can.

I'm no expert but I'm guessing on 3rd and 10 the quarterback might just be looking downfield in order to hit a receiver and move the sticks instead of a 3 yard drag route....im just sayin. It's not like he had all day to scan the field with a 7 man blitz.

I do however think he should have hit smith, but I don't think that he took off running because he wasn't comfortable. I think that's just the type of player he is. To me it shows that he is capable of putting the team on his back by making a great play

What was worse than the run was that throw to Shockey for the TD.

Cam is very lucky that Shockey was a human playing football and not a fencepost. If Shockey were a fencepost, Cam's pass would have bounced right off of him and probably landed in the waiting arms of a defensive back.

he should've assumed he was a fencepost and not make any kind of throw and take the sack like a traditional pocket passer would

Welcome to posting. I will give you a sliver of advice. You have chosen the pro Cam side. Be prepared to either defend your opinion, or keep telling it how you see it. I like the latter, but the former can be interesting.

To answer your question, I see nothing wrong with Cam running. He is a rookie, and there are going to be times when his flight instinct is going to take over. I am of the belief that over time he will get it. It is however, going to be great fun watching him develop.

One last thing. I also agree that Cam is Cam. He is NOT another anybody.

Welcome, and GOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your opinion. I agree with you 100 percent. Btw I'm not only pro cam, I'm pro anything that gives the panthers the best chance to win!

Not so much comparing stats but play from the position. Would you feel worse about Cam if he didn't score a single TD....like the QBs of prior preseasons? I would think you would.

Not really.

I know people were all hyped up that he needed to score a TD. I suppose it could help his confidence, but I wouldn't have been bothered if it hadn't happened. In preseason, I prefer to evaluate how they play, not the stats they produce.

Bottom line on Newton: He's essentially got Jake Delhomme's passing mechanics in Ben Roethlisberger's physique with Daunte Culpepper's athleticism.

Worth remembering we won plenty with Delhomme at quarterback, and he wasn't anywhere near the physical specimen Newton is, so it's a different ballgame. Still, I have to admit I find it ironic that after years of people saying they wanted a franchise QB over Jake, we got a franchise QB with the same passing skills.

So like before, we can expect to see some throws that make us cheer, others that make us cringe, some that make us see "how did he do that" and others that make us say 'why did he do that".

As long as it equals out to wins, I'll be happy.

I was under the impression that real fans do not have a problem being called a "Homer". Optimism is what it is all about. Illusions of Grandeur, greener passes, and the skies the lemon. Works for fans of bad teams that are improving, or good teams that are established.

No one is going to dent my giddy. I am going to ejoin this season for what it was. Groin pains that lead to the promised lamb.

Giddy is as Giddy does. And GOOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!

I might just change my first name to homer! I love this team!

Show me a successful QB whose strongest asset, by your own admission, is their running ability and I'll show you a college football star who never made it in the NFL.

I agree... but we're not talking about Marcus Vick or The Golden Calf of Bristol...

Cam Newton actually threw 30 TD passes while he was at Auburn... 2 less than Andrew Luck. (In Michael Vicks last college year, he only threw 9 TD passes.) But to go with that... Cam also rushed for over 20 TD's.

Cam was not drafted because he's just an athletic QB. Anyone who was actually watching the preseason would see that Cam is a pass-first QB, whose always looking downfield. His arm strength is unlike anything I've seen in awhile. His footwork needs improvement and he needs to continue to learn the offense.... But so is EVERYONE ELSE on this team. New coach. New Offense and a Rookie QB. Lockout and No OTA's.... throw in a o-line that gives you no time and this is what you get.

But please... No more implications about Cam Newton's strongest asset is that He can run. He's also tall and big, elusive and hard to bring down. These are the reasons that I dont even understand why people were comparing him to Jimmy Clausen. If you dont think he can pass... just look at his stats.

I'm not really understanding the comparison to Delhomme when Newton has produced 0 turnovers.
