National Cam haters haven't watch Panthers

The pocket was collapsing. Should he have waited until the last split second so people could've complained about him not stepping into his throws?

The success rate of him running for the first down on that play was 100%

The success rate for him hitting Steve and getting a first down was about 85%

=good decision.

Those percentages are

The pocket was not collapsing one bit.

Define "made it in the NFL".

You define it

Why is it that everyone that thinks Cam can be a good player and had a great drive last night is part of some homer hivemind. And people who criticize him are just being real and clear headed truth tellers??

Because anyone that doesn't see the serious flaws in Cam's game are delusional.

I also think he can be a good player. That takes time though, and I don't think he'll be good in his rookie year, as long as he shows flashes(similar to Freeman's rookie year who was awful but made some brilliant plays occasionally) I'll consider it a successful season.

Cam hit the top of his drop, the blitz was picked up, he had a nice pocket, Smith is running free, and he takes off.

You can't argue with it. He either doesn't understand the plays, doesn't understand protections, or gets flustered in the pocket and takes off.

When he hit the top of his drop, he wasn't looking at Smitty... he was looking dowfield. If he had just gone "one read" to Smitty, you would have complained about that too.

By the time he checked off his primary read, the pocket was collapsing and collapsing hard and fast. And he stepped up into open field.

Again, if he hadn't tried to make his downfield reads, you would have crucified him for that. I'm apt to think that if he had dropped it off to Smitty at the top of his drop, you would have crucified him for that too.

In other words, it doesn't matter what Cam does or how he does it, you are going to fling poo at him. At least everybody on this forum is pretty clear about your "view" of Cam now. And, when it comes to Cam, you're about as unbiased as I am.

you're right that he wasn't looking at Smitty. He looks down field, which is good, but he sometimes needs to learn to find the receivers open that aren't just deep downfield. One of the complaints about him in the past was not taking the short routes the defense was giving him to wide open guys, and this is another case of that. However, this time, he made a nice play with his legs to get the first down, so meh. I still believe that as he gets more comfortable he will throw that ball to Smitty, but for now... he's moving the offense how he can.

@ Bleys, But pockets "develop" they don't just show up. He didn't give it any time to develop, which goes back to him being run first. The front 5 held up and Stew came over perfectly.

The pocket was there, Cam rushed it.

That wasn't a pocket "developing".

That was a pocket COLLAPSING.

Now I know that you have your wonderful picture that freezes a point in time and you are now loving life pointing out the perfect pocket in that picture. How nice for you at that infinitesimal point in time that you were "right" (because that is what makes you happy more than anything... TheRealDeal "I told you so").

But at the millisecond AFTER your infinitesimal point in time and the seconds following thereafter, the pocket was collapsing.

And Cam got a first down from that collapsing situation.

Which extended a drive that resulted in a touchdown.

OH WOE IS US!!! (exclaims TRD)

I agree. Checking from covered downfield routes to a short, open crossing pattern will (hopefully) develop. That would be a good thing.

But its not a bad thing when the pocket starts collapsing on you on 3rd and 10 to have the instinct and ability to take off for 20 yards, move the chains, and extend the drive. For someone to COMPLAIN about that is asinine.

Ok I realize this is my first post ever but i have been reading posts about this team and in particular Cam Newton for far too long to let people continue to criticize his ROOKIE play.

Cam is not a traditional quarterback so why does everyone continue to analyze him as one. So i take it as its a bad decision by Cam to do what he does best, and run for 20 yards on 3rd and 10, when he has nothing but green grass in front of him. Stop wanting Cam to play the position like almost everyone else in the NFL. You should see that we could potentially have something really special with this guy. With his style of play he will force the defense to be honest at all times.

So I have a question for you. What is the problem with Cam taking off and running to ensure a first down to keep the drive alive instead of hitting Smith on the crossing route?

Welcome to posting. I will give you a sliver of advice. You have chosen the pro Cam side. Be prepared to either defend your opinion, or keep telling it how you see it. I like the latter, but the former can be interesting.

To answer your question, I see nothing wrong with Cam running. He is a rookie, and there are going to be times when his flight instinct is going to take over. I am of the belief that over time he will get it. It is however, going to be great fun watching him develop.

One last thing. I also agree that Cam is Cam. He is NOT another anybody.

Welcome, and GOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard Cam address this issue. Saying that sometimes a checkdown is not a bad play. (Unless it is 3rd and long. Oh wait,...)

DAMMMM. He is a rookie not a vet. If we are going to argue every mistake, whether real or preceived, it is going to get very interesting. Check that, it is already overly so. He is not going to be perfect for at least a couple games. People seem to dismiss the reps he missed from no OTAs and TC. Those reps were invaluable to his progress. Give him those 6 weeks, then jump himz azz.

I am extremely giddy over the possiblities that Cam brings. Ain't no one, or no thing, going stop my giddy.

Let the show begin. And GOOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
