National Cam haters haven't watch Panthers

'Everyone's a critic' as the saying goes.

Until someone on this board has

a. actually coached in the NFL

b. and/or actually played offense in the NFL

c. and/or recognized as a football authority as knowing what they are talking about

then, it seems to me it's just a personal opinion and that's fine it's a forum.

As for Newton, if the throw was there and he missed it, well, you know what, he would not be the first rookie QB to to do that. I am sure the coaches will address it and he will learn from it. That's their job.

To me the bottom-line is pretty simple, either by his feet or his arm, he gives this team a shot of energy and a chance to win or at least be competitive. He will take a monstrous beating mentally and physically as he adjusts to the speed of the regular season. He knows it. We know it. Let him be who he is right now and cope as best he can. He will grown into who he is suppose to be.

Cameron is going to be Cameron. He is not the second coming of anyone. And I believe that it is a good thing. Lots of what Cameron is going to do is going to amaze people. I am just giddy to have a front row seat.

I could care less if there are fans, or not fans, who feel the need to knock him. I, as well as many others, see the excitement he brings. It really is too bad that the haters are missing out on this. Oh well, my in-laws are coming. THAT is real life.

Cameron is a rookie QB in the NFL. He is going to look great one play, and loopy the next. It comes with the territory. I personally believe he is going to be far more exciting than not. Heck, look at this forum if you do not believe he brings excitement.

Finding fault with every little detail is the definition of pessimism. Sad waste of emotion in my book. I see the excitement and get all giddy. Not enough giddy in the world now-a-days.

I like me some giddy. And GOOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, the organization is scared not to start him because of the revenue hit it would take by sitting him.

I think throwing Cam in to make a quick buck, when it could ultimately destroy the development of what could be one of the greatest QBs ever, is pretty irresponsible on the part of our ownership.

Cam isn't read. The ONLY reason why he is starting is because we have NOTHING better! Look even Michael Vick didn't start game one and he was as highly hyped if not more than Cam.

The guy still doesn't slide when he runs head first!!! That's running as a QB 101! You think he's ready? Come on.

Preseason guys are a little loose. If somebody gets a chance to pop him and he's running head first... you might regret ever considering it.

Why is it that everyone that thinks Cam can be a good player and had a great drive last night is part of some homer hivemind. And people who criticize him are just being real and clear headed truth tellers??

What if you think Cam could be a good player, had a good drive, but made mistakes last night and other nights (correctable ones), and wasn't perfect?

It's gonna happen until Newton retires man. People love to hate the kid.

sure, if he continues to play like he did this preseason it will... but if he improves, so too will the opinion of people on this forum. I think it's pretty obvious that the reaction to him has generally been more favorable after last night than after his first couple preseason games.

I still prefer sitting rookies for at least some games, but I'm excited to see what he can do.

Then you're paying attention. Granted that isn't as fun setting yourself up as first to point & laugh at the people who are claiming boom/bust now, but when your dick is big enough that you DON'T care what people on the internet say...

Cam hit the top of his drop and took off, before letting Smith's route get to where it needs to be.

He needs to have that anticipation to be successful. 1 extra hit he didn't need in his career and it's not like Cam made anyone miss, he got tackled a yard after he came up to the first defender.

You can make all the excuses you want to defend it, bad decision by Cam rooted in some of his deep weaknesses.

Ok I realize this is my first post ever but i have been reading posts about this team and in particular Cam Newton for far too long to let people continue to criticize his ROOKIE play.

Cam is not a traditional quarterback so why does everyone continue to analyze him as one. So i take it as its a bad decision by Cam to do what he does best, and run for 20 yards on 3rd and 10, when he has nothing but green grass in front of him. Stop wanting Cam to play the position like almost everyone else in the NFL. You should see that we could potentially have something really special with this guy. With his style of play he will force the defense to be honest at all times.

So I have a question for you. What is the problem with Cam taking off and running to ensure a first down to keep the drive alive instead of hitting Smith on the crossing route?

Cam doesn't just "get a pass" on the mistakes he makes because he's "special." I don't care if he can run. He isn't the first quarterback to enter the league that could run and he won't be the last. I'm glad he got the first down and kept the chains moving.

I don't think him taking off to run was a terrible decision at all but imho Smitty would have been a better option for a variety of reasons discussed in this thread and elsewhere. I think that as Cam gets more comfortable with the offense, and with his own abilities and those of the players around him, he makes that throw to Smitty instead. I understand that he's had issues with short throws though and keeping the ball and running with it with a clear lane to get the first down is not a bad thing to do. For now, I'm willing to bet that the coaches are asking him in the film room about what he saw there. I'm glad it all worked out well, and he's clearly an explosive runner. He's fun to watch, but I really hope he learns to slide sometime soon (because otherwise, teams will start trying to knock him out of the game).

Also, I don't believe that if Cam is going to be very successful in this game it will be his running that will be his strongest asset, but it will be one of many abilities he uses to move the offense.
