Panther/Steelers game time thread

None of those three had anything to do with why I didn't want to take him or why people thought we'd be better off going a position other than quarterback.

You should only speak for yourself. I dont think you can speak for those other people and their intentions, there are literally thread after thread on this board that say otherwise. Every excuse in the book was used as to why putting Newt out there would be the end of our franchise or set us back 4-5 years. It just wasnt logical or rational for fans of a team that had the worst offense in the league to not want a QB the caliber of Cam Newton, ironically after those same folks were all but ready to give the keys to another QB who didnt even enter the draft. In fact its indefensible given what we know now and how much the team is standing behind our guy.

Why? You're making statements that are irrelevant to the majority of posters here who didn't want to draft Cam yet passing them off as if you can speak to the intentions of everyone who didn't want him... at least I'm in the group who didn't want him. Most of us didn't think he was going to steal laptops or hold out or poo.

I felt that we would have been a better team if we had used our draft picks in a different way and pursued a veteran free agent quarterback, because I didn't have confidence that Cam Newton was going to transition well in this situation because I knew if we drafted him he would be likely to start early, and I wasn't sure we'd have the team to support him since that would leave very large holes in other areas.

I don't think Luck has anything to do with this, he is a totally different player and wasn't even in the draft.

Remember...

"We should see what we have with Jimmy FIRST! It wouldnt be fair to draft another guy, we owe him another chance! He's entitled to it!"

...all this offseason.

Imagine if we did just that.

I wanted to bring in veteran competition, and have an actual quarterback competition in camp. By no means did I want to go into this season with Clausen as our uncontested #1.

Have any laptops been stolen? Did he holdout? Is it taking him 2-3 years to become a starter?

Let me address this two since I am guilty of pulling up all three pre-draft, in the interest of full disclosure.

1. Laptops, none stolen that I'm aware of, but you can't tell me that such a history isn't, at the very least, a cause for concern for a kid about to be thrust into this position? The Panthers were concerned and did an exhaustive background check which they were satisfied with.

2. Hold out- no he didn't and seemed very eager to just get to work, one thing that really impressed me. The rookie wage scale MAY have played a big role in this.

3. Starter- is winning it fair and square, but so did Moore, J Russell, R Leaf, who were all busts. What does that have to do with Cam? Nada, but he hasn't taken a snap in a real game, still has a lot to work on and hasn't shown if he can be a successful starter yet. That may still take years, or not.

4. His dad(brought up elsewhere) hasn't been a problem and really wasn't a concern of mine moving forward, you'd hope he learned his lesson from the first debacle.
