Let's get it over with and cut EB and AE

top dawg

AE was a great college athlete, but unless we are going to make him a QB, I just don't see it happening. There are too many natural WRs and KRs for him to ever be legitimate from what I've seen so far. I can respect if you want to give him more time, but all I am saying is that I can argue that LaFell, Nanne, Pilares and Clowney are more legitimate wide-outs (not to mention Gettis).

I wanna know why we haven't cut Beason yet, dude's injured man there's no reason to keep him around, and like why does Rivera still have a job? Dude hasn't proved squat. And that dude Jerry Richardson, he needs to be fired or whatever what a terrible owner and I don't see how Roger Goodell still has a job either.

No reason to be facetious. Beason was pretty much always a proven commodity. He came into the NFL making an impact. Rivera has been a great player and coach, and Richardson owns the team.

Stop trying to compare apples to lemons.

AE is a player who has had one off-season with a lame-duck coach and an offensive coordinator that didn't know his playbook from a bucket of KFC chicken, and a shortened off-season, of only about a month, in a new special teams system, as well as a new offensive scheme. All the while translating from a QB to a WR.

Pilares is also a rookie, who is still learning the ropes of the WR position after switching from a running back to WR, who has also had a one-month-to-learn offseason.

David Clowney is alright, but I'm not sure he offers what AE offers on the special teams side of the ball. He's nowhere near fast enough, or evasive enough, to make players miss in the open field while returning punts.

LaFell, also, isn't fast enough to return punts, nor is he evasive enough to dodge players in the open field on special teams. He also has a tendency to drop passes because of his hands. (Has been a knock on him since his sophomore or junior year in college.)

Naanee is a veteran wide receiver who has spent three+ years in the Air Coryell Offense, so he knows the ends and outs. I think he's a starter on our team, but a third or fourth on any other team. (See: San Diego)

David Gettis is on IR.

Did I miss anything?

But, you're trying to tell me that all of them aren't better than AE at WR, even now? IF you believe this, then it's your opinion. Others probably believe it too. I don't.

BTW, Clowney is fast as hell. Perhaps AE is more evasive or quick, I don't know. Gettis being on IR is a non-factor IMO (at it pertains to AE's viability).

Moreover, let's not act like there aren't going top be any more KRs out there. If Tate were to become available, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He is a natural punt returner.

Brandon Tate doesn't return punts.

I think he returned like, four? last year, for less than 20 yards.

He's a kick returner, there is a huge difference.

EDIT: Nevermind, he's returned 1 kick in his career... For four yards.

REEDIT: Er, he's only returned one kick.

Fumbling a punt at the 12 yard line has little to do with your scenario?

Instant Touchdown for the Natti.

Too early to give up on AE and there's hope that EB can still be a good situational pass rusher, especially in 34 alignments which we plan to use in some cases.

Hardy is a situational pass rusher (who I hope can develop into more), and he is decidedly better than EB in my estimation. EB is an undersized DE who might give you 5 sacks/hurries per year, if he's lucky. Certainly not 1st material.

I'm not saying that AE is some sort of miracle player. I don't even think he's that good, at least, right now. He needs a lot more work in the return game to become a reliable return guy, and then tons more work in the receiving game, and then he might be a second receiver on a team.

I'm just saying that he's definitely not worth releasing right now. It would be crazy to release him after last season, and this year's preseason.

I am referring to Golden Tate.

Oh. I thought we were talking about the better of the two Tates...

Golden Tate has only returned 16 kicks in his career (albeit, it's only been one year), for 202 yards, one of which was a 63 yarder. So, he has 15 mediocre returns, and one anomaly return.

(16 returns for 202 yards is only an average of 12 yards per return. If you take away the 63 yard anomaly, his return average is less than 9.3 yards.)
