strong arm you to "give" to the United Way? My office is gearing up its annual campaign and it ticks me off. I do not believe in making a business out of charity. Oh yeah, and they appointed me to the UW committee. Bullshit!

My old company did. And the only reason I gave was to get my name in the drawing for an extra paid day off. Never won. Stop giving when the United Way Char. President pay scam broke out in the news.

my old company did too, but i resisted. united way is said to have some of the highest admin fees of all the big charities

I realized what BS the UW was at my first job. They use staff time to distribute their forms, then tell you you have to sign it and turn it in even if you are not giving. WTF is that. Don't get me wrong, I know they make sure that certain charities get money (which is good), but they are using a portion of people's "gifts" to pay their own employees (which is disgusting). I consider that a business and last time I checked, most places of business prohibit soliciting. Why does UW get a pass? Because they are doing good work? I would rather give to the charity of my choice and cut out the middle man, I don't need someone to do it for me.

Hell no. Small business has it's perks if the owner cares about their employees, mainly decent benefits and no stupid corporate bullshit.
