The Panthers are talking to Alex Brown about signing him

when?dont remember.

I think the structure of the deal was the only real, significant difference. He wanted out, wanted to spread his wings per se and I'm glad, we have CJ who costs less and outperformed Pep last season. I also have never seen a reason to question CJ's motor.

I'll say this, and I honestly believe that one of Pep's biggest problems was Carl Carrey.

I wonder if Rivera could be very interested in Browm because the player he coached in Chicago was a beast. But at 32, how much does he have left? Does he regain his form of old or at 32 begin the decline into mediocrity.

For me though I want a good stout guy in the middle, a Hollis Thomas kind of guy. Always felt better with Kemo in the middle even if he never got a sack. He was stout against the run and took on double teams allowing the other DT to be singled up to penetrate and disrupt.

I agree with those who say it comes down to money especially if we plan to do anything at corner or guard as well. I don't know if Brown becomes a priority compared to what we need and what we can spend at other positions.

There is more to a DE than sacks. That could be stopping the run and its hard to stop that when you are spinning around.

I think they are looking at him for help against the run.It makes sense to me to give him a look. Our run defense needs as much help as we can get

Don't know if this has already been asked in either of the Brown threads, but any chance he can get slid inside to DT. Before anyone tries to flame me, I'm aware of the fact he's a DE, but so are a lot of the Giants' DT's and they have had a ton of success moving their talent inside. Obviously it takes a certain type of DE to line up over a guard or center than trying to beat a tackle or tight end around the edges, but maybe McDermott and Rivera are trying to think outside the box.

i never questioned his ability to play and was glad he would finally get his chance to start because fox was not putting him over Brayton for some reason. ray charles seen CJ should have been ahead of TB. my question is before JP left MH said we offered him a contractbut when?

I like it. You can never have too much depth on the defensive line. I wonder if this signing is because of Hardy is expected to miss some games in the regular season. If he is signed then we will have 5 DEs (Brown, Hardy,Johnson,Norwood,Alex Brown) so obviously one is going to be cut.

I was also wondering why the saints cut Brown? Was he having a good or bad preseason? what can we expect from him?

We actually offered him several contracts starting after his dismal 2.5 sack season.
