Gruden on the Panthers

the most predictable thing about the NFC South is that the last place team always shows a marked improvement the next year; this division is very volatile and I for one am not going to go into it expecting wins/losses. I hope can only hope for exciting games..

It amazes me how some of you can look at a damn schedule and game by game see wins and losses. Better men than me.

Think about how god awful we were last season. We had a chance at a 2 minute drive to beat the Saints on the road. Can we play the games please?

I realize you might consider your post fairly profound but really its not. You cannot tell wins and losses from looking at a schedule but you can guess wins and losses along a schedule by looking at the practices we have seen on TV. It's not hard to guess Experience and a trained eye actually makes it easier to do. The idea of this is also not even novel. There are multiple bookies in every town and an internationally known city in the middle of the desert that makes a killing every year by doing just exactly what you infer cannot or should not be done.

This team is not about winning this season. They are incredibly young and will put these young guys in the game even if they are not ready. Cam will start and only come out of games if he is injured. This will be an "OTA" season for the Panthers. 2 wins will be about it. We will be a top 5 pick again next season. It is what I wish it were not.

You completely missed the point of my post. No one is trying to be profound or enlightening but you. You JUST said you can't tell wins and losses from looking at a schedule, which is exactly what I said.

it takes hard work and bad breaks to only win 2 games......

even for rebuilding teams. In today's NFL, you can't predict 2 win teams....they typically come out of nowhere.

The number one most difficult schedule doesn't help either

and again, the SOS you are referring to applies to the 2010 season.

flawed to use that as reality for the upcoming year.....every team will be different and play different and have new injuries. SOS will be different than what is currently shown.

Like I said, lookat the SOS projected prior to the 2010 season and what it turned out to be.....it is always different.....every year.

I think the first game is important this year. If the Panthers Defense shows up (a big "if"), then Kevin Kolb can be rattled with pressure, and fall apart, and Arizona will look like a bust to the media. If the D sucks it up, then Kolb will look like the 2nd coming and Arizona's prospects will soar, and this team will just think they're cursed.

With all the preseason hype surrounding Kolb, if the Panthers win that game, then there's no telling how good they can be with a little more confidence, but if they lose it, they'll probably be lucky to win four.

The first game, this year, is just that important.

week 1 rarely tells you what kind of team to expect over the course of a season.

for a team installing a new O and D w/ a rookie QB....it will probably give us no clue about what type team Carolina will be after their bye week to finish the year.
