What is really our problem?

Fox was one bad kickoff from being the first coach to give us a superbowl, for that i will always respect him. If you dont get that you are just shallow and pedantic.

I disagree about the kick off and agree about Fox always having my respect for what he did for this franchise.

However, his reluctance to play young guys is a big factor in his inability to put together winning seasons. I hope Rivera can improve upon both those areas.

i don't understand all the hate for him.

I understand that all of us fans were ready to move on from fox. Evidently most, just can't do it.

I don't have to hate him to feel relieved for a new regime, a new change of pace, new issues instead of the same excuses every year.. it's a weight off my shoulders to see this change. I'm fairly certain John Fox is a great guy and all, but whether Fox hovers around average with a few bright spots in his tenure isn't anything I'm concerned with..

I appreciate the memories, but I'm ready to gamble elsewhere...

Okay coaches gather around and let's discuss the situation. OL, we have Otah,Schwartz,Pro bowl center, Wharton and Gross. Is this a top tier OL? Agree or disagree. Yes agree (nodding of heads all around. Then I GM Hurney say we spend a first pick on a QB name Cam to operate behind this first class line. Nodding of heads all around. I see spmeone with their hand up back there. Yes, what happens if someone gets hurt and we have nothing but fuging rookies to back him up? oR IF CAM CAN'T HIT open recievers, HUH. I Hurney don't give a crap Because I'm GM Hurney and I know more about football than fans.

Agree......and many young players will certainly be on the field this year...not only were we one of the youngest team rosters last year, the starting 22 might be one of the younger ones at the season opener.

That seems to point towards youth being our real problem at this point...Playing so many unproven players will cost us in the win column in the short term, but what real options are available at this point? .... Add wholesale coaching change, new schemes, no mini-camp and no OTA's to our current situation. Not sure that will give the team any shot to turn this franchise around for 2011, but let's face it, it's all new and it's up to the team to work with what they have.....Just hope we see at least some moves for options at CB.

...and I understand and agree with the "build through the draft" philosophy, but I think we're relying too much on young players right now. It's not fair to expect two rookie DT's to be able to step in and play right away. It's also not fair to expect a handful of 2nd year WR's (who did not have the benefit of a full offseason) to be able to get the job done, and the combination of inexperienced QB + inexperienced WR's is a bad one.

We need to bring in a few more vets while the young guys learn.

Because it is preseason and nothing that happens in preseason matters so stop stressing about it.

2008 Lions

"lol we undefeated now?"

The record does not matter, but the preseason does expose some problems and right now we've got problems all over the place.
