Brandon Tate May Be Odd Man Out in New England

I don't see us picking up anymore receivers that aren't game ready and an instant upgrade to what we already have. At this point Tate is nothing special. He might grow into that in time but we already have a ton of guys we brought in to develop. If he isn't a game ready number 2 or 3 guy who can contribute day 1, we just have enough developmental guys already.

I think the problem with Carolina's receiving core is that Tate would be an upgrade at the 2 or 3 and would probably make and impact.:eek:

Brandon Tate would be able to make plays for us. Enough said. Guy can flat out play. He's better than everybody but Smith on our current roster. I am thinking he is a victim of the NE weapons being plentiful. Definitely worth a shot. I mean, our receivers can't get much worse. And he played with Hakeem Nicks. You know those two shared tips on techniques and route running, and Nicks is slowly becoming a big name WR in NY. Just saying. It is totally worth it.

And yes, I am a UNC fan. Bite me.

Tate isn't a developmental guy. He's still young, but he's a receiver that knows the position. He's big. He's strong in the air fighting for the ball. And he has great speed. His route running is pretty crisp as well. Tate is better than Martin, better than Pilares, and better than Edwards (although Edwards is a solid slot receiver). Smith at the 1, Tate at the 2, then Gettis/Edwards/Naanee/etc. I don't see why you wouldn't do it. We cut the bottom line of our WRs that we can't use on special teams. The more offensive weapons, the better. Worse case scenario, we end up having Tate for a year and if he doesn't work out, trading him for a mid-low round pick and picking up a new body next year or using that pick to trade up earlier in the draft.

I am not talking trading for him. Strictly a waivers deal. Pick him up if he gets released. If you don't think he is an IMMEDIATE upgrade over LaFell, you're crazy. A wet fart is an upgrade over LaFell. I don't think you can say Tate is not productive. He's buried on the depth chart behind a ton of receivers, then you got the fact that Tom Brady spreads the wealth. He was as productive as our #2 last year. Tate can and will produce somewhere, and I just want that to be here. There is no reason, if we can get him off waivers, to NOT pick him up for a season or 2 on a weak contract and see if he can earn a big one. None.

WR is a position of need. No WRs have stepped up and separated themselves from the pack thus far in the preseason, and that isn't good. If I'm the one calling the shots, I am eying Tate and if NE drops him, I swoop in and pick him up.

im definitly in favor of getting a DT over another WR anyway. We should really let the young guys we have Develop. We got Smitty and Olsen/Shockey, they should be able to put some pressure on these younger/new guys to step their game up as well as mentor them into becoming a better player.

I guess. Not really sure exactly who we have on ST units as far as our WRs. But surely we're not using every one of them. And even if we are, if LaFell is the odd-man out, cut him, replace with Tate. Tate > LaFell just based on hands and pure athleticism. This cannot be argued. That alone is all you need to know that Tate should be on this team.

if the coaching staff feels he has more potential than LaFell or Naanee (I think he does) than it wouldn't be smart to overlook him just because we have potential already..

that's if he can be had without giving up a lot in return..
