Stop it with the oversized DT talk....

Generalize much? I'm not saying technique is irrelevant. I am saying that technique is an accompaniment to strength, otherwise you could plug any jimmy or joe in there with good technique and it would work. Amazing how some people can just say something and the pack dogs just follow suit with no independant thought.

Without good technique, there is no progress. That goes for everything in life. Please stop posting.

I disagree with CB being a bigger need than DT.

Games are won and lost in the trenches!

Everything starts at the LOS, and right now our young DT's aren't cutting it. It's no knock on them, but we need an experience vet to come in and sure up that position. You can hide poor CB play, by playing zone, but there's nothing you can do to hide poor DT play.

until gamble breaks out of his funk (and hopefully he does), there are no starting calibre CBs on this roster. somebody's going to get signed and start several games before the bye week.

if fua and mcclain really are going to get heavy snaps at the beginning of the season, that can only bode well for their long term development. fua is a sharp guy with good instincts and being thrown to the fire could be just what he needs to evolve into a solid nose tackle very soon. mcclain has the physical gifts but desperately needs that extra jump in core strength and fitness that comes from a season on an NFL roster.

so that was my way of more or less agreeing with the OP.

I agree with Zod. Doesn't matter if the DT is 330 pounds, if he doesn't have good technique he will suck. Just like Kemoeatu. He hardly did anything and was inconsistent, yet everyone is on his nuts becasue of his weight and want him back despite his legs being shot.

As far as CB, I have no idea why Hurney only wanted Rogers for dirt cheap. He only got a 1 year deal in San Francisco. How cheap are we going to be with the biggest hole on our team? I thought we were over the days of trying to fill huge needs with bottom of the barrell talent who would play for 5 bucks an hour and hope they can become starters (which most of the time they couldn't). If we don't pickup anyone, I hope they try Pugh or Martin at CB because they would be our only hope.

They aren't ready, but we are not going to be winning much this year regardless. Best to keep them in and get them some serious experience for next season when we have a shot at winning some games.

Yeah, but what Coaching staff and FO is going to operate like this?

I do agree that they may eventually become solid defensive tackles, once they gain some experience. I don't agree that the situation at corner is worse. Good defense starts at the line. If your line sucks, then your defense sucks, regardless of whats behind it. If we can get some pressure on the qb, that might mask our problems at cornerback. But with rookie dt's, consistent pressure isn't going to happen until they get that experience.

this people need to realize that if we had a good dline the cbs could suck and we could still win games the qb cant throw a ball if his ass is on the ground and that means if the cbs blow there assignments who cares?
