Cam is ready

I will be happy if in 2011, we accomplish what Tampa Bay did in 2009 with Josh Freeman, go 5-11 and give Cam great experience. If the following year we go 10-6 like Tampa did in 2010 did we will have rebuilt the team into a contender. We will need the defense to step up and the offensive line to gel and play well. That will improve the running game and give Newton the time to pass the ball. Sure you would like Cam to be better than he is, but if the team plays together it is reasonble to expect to win 5 or 6 games this year. He works hard and give it his all, which is just what Freeman is known for as well. I f we can replicate their success this whole newton debate will quickly dissipate.

I think you are right

I also think that is one big IF

I agree, last night I was saying start Jimmy, but the more I thought about it, that would be stupid. We're gonna go about 4-12 this year, why let Cam sit when he can go out and get his feet wet and get a feel for it? Let him go through the growing pains, I do think he will improve consistently if no one gets hurt. His footwork and short passing game are just ugly.

This is what I've been saying for Jimmy Clausen since last year. He's a rookie, he will make mistakes. Patience is key. But you know what? Double standards are abundant around here. It's OK to be patient with Cam but not Jimmy. Only because he's the "future" and in reality it's because he's the #1 pick.

Now Jimmy is looking better, slightly albeit, but better. They are both mediocre at best right now. Jim has experience, whether y'all like it or not, he does. He should start this season out. That's my humble opinion.

I just find it funny to see that Cam is struggling, with the same things Jim did last year, and people make excuses for Cam. But they are the same excuses that were dismissed for Jim last year. It's asinine. "Jimmy 'captain checkdown' Clausen ladies and gentlemen.". Hey, I saw Cam Checking down plenty... "Jimmy can't find teh WR and he gitz the TEs.", Really Cam didn't do the same? It gets annoying reading how everyone supposedly scrutinizes Cam on everything he does, yet, no one cried about it when Jimmy was in the Same boat last year. The hell?!

Here's the difference...

Think of the pass in the endzone to Smitty last night where he could only get one foot in. Do you honestly have a vision in your mind of Jimmy making that throw? Or how about the rope to Olsen for 30 yards in the Giants game? Or the run for a TD last night. Those are some "wow" moments that we just haven't seen with JC.

Granted, there are some others that also cause you to say "wow" because they are so ugly, but Jimmy has had plenty of those also.

It is Cam's potential to give us more of those electrifying plays that creates hope, and that is what has been missing with Jimmy. It has nothing to do with a double standard or being the first pick in the draft.

Cam is at least showing he can make some plays when a play breaks down. He might make rookie mistakes, but he's also progressing and making some plays here and there. Jimmy seemed to regress last year..his best time moving the ball was in the preseason last year imo. I can see with my eyes the things Cam will be able to do once things start to slow down for him..I never saw what the payoff was for having play Clausen..

I'm not comparing This years cam to last years Jimmy.. :nono:

This year Jimmy has shown Improvement. All from the horrible season he had last year. If you can't see that, then I can't help.

This competition right now, is dead even. Period. I actually give a slight edge to Jimmy, mainly because he's been able to hit his receivers and TE's. His composure has been ok.

If this was last year, and both of them were rookies and Jimmy played like he did last year during the preseason, you know what, I'd agree with you all you want.

Also, there were plenty of plays where he should have kept the play alive and did not. He hesitated to run, I don't know why though. I actually screamed at my laptop because I saw him wanting to run and did not. He throws off his back foot all day...his accuracy can be sporadic. He isn't in sync with the receivers, not hitting them.

Regardless, if he starts, I won't be so concerned about it. He seems like the kind of guy that will learn hands on.

I just hate for the kid to get shellshocked waiting for the rest of the team to gel.

He's a big boy, though, and this is what he signed up for, so hopefully he can handle it.

I still think he is going to be a terrific QB when all is said and done. A lot of his problems now seem to be timing, i.e. learning when the receivers will become open. He'll get it down.

This shellshocked meme is garbage and nonsense. It's only ever happened to David Carr and that took years to happen. A bad preseason game isn't going to leave a confidence giant like Cam "shellshocked". Neither would an entire bad year. Hell, most quarterbacks are never "shellshocked" no matter how long they suck. If they continue to struggle, it's because they're not skilled enough usually, it's hardly ever some mental fear. This "OMG HE'LL TURN INTO DAVID CARR/JIMMY CLAUSEN!!!!!!!!" thing that WFNZ keeps pushing is really moronic.

Why are you so mad dude? Just admit that, right now, Cam should be playing for a college team not an NFL team and hope he gets better.

Well that throw Jimmy made to LaFell in the first series for 30+ yards was pretty impressive. Against 1st string talent may I add..

The throw to Clowney that was called back in the Giants game was a beauty.

There are wow passes Jim has had. Ok he doesn't run like Cam... He just isn't a specimen like Cam is.

I agree he does create and generate excitement, but hey. Last years Jimmy isn't this years Jimmy. He's improved, and guess what, this is still a competition. Cam hasn't sealed the deal either. You can't say that his last two games sealed the deal man. His first game was great though.

Agreed.

There is a lot of lol in this thread.

Cam can make the throws, and the runs.

agreed. chalk this up as a learning year and keep the expectations low as far as wins are concerned. the main goal is for this team to gel and grow together, the QB and rest of the team getting used to each other. offense and defense getting used to the playbook and it evolving with them as they grow.

It's okay for Cam to have the same problems as Jimmy and not get poo on because criticizing Cam makes you a racist/hater/some other insult to attack your character as opposed to actually addressing the valid concerns presented.

How many TDs has Cam thrown so far this preseason?

Oh wait, he hasn't.

But its cool, growing pains. Not like the team went through that last season, or that the oline is in no way responsible for Cam completely missing receivers.

I wasn't aware that it was perfectly okay to more or less forfeit the season after being the worst team in the league. Get the fug out of here with that. Why is it okay to lose this season? We already dealt with that ignorant garbage last season when people were betting their kids' college savings on Luck.

Cam is a Panther and I am going to cheer for him as loud as I can, but to sit here and pretend that he has performed well or at the very least satisfactorily is about as stupid as any post made by KT.

Icege is butthurt. He's upset Jimmy isnt our starter, even after we gave him 10 starts last season and he performed poorly. Icege thinks its fair to judge Cameron after 3 preseason games, but doesnt think its fair to judge Jimmy after a season of bad QB play and a so so training camp. Icege isnt patient enough to give Cam Newton 10 regular season starts like he gave Jimmy last year. Icege believes in Jimmy's entitlement, despite his poor play. Icege is one of the many idiot fans we have in our fanbase. Another Cam Hater forced to root for him. Its tragic. LOL.
