Cam is ready

I think Cam will be fine (but still a rookie). Our OL is supposed to be 1 of the best in the league & they have looked terrible. Sadly, I am using the word terrible a lot lately...the worst part is that I am correct in saying so.

Kalil just signs a huge extension then gets pushed around by a non-elite DT during the Bengals game.

They have the talent to become a very good lone, but I think Rivera needs to use the run game more. If team stop teeing off on the QB, the OL can gel. I know it's pre-season, but if you wnat to get QB-WR timing down, don't do it to the detriment of the element of suprise to the defenses, it make the DLs just bull rush.

While I acknowledge that a veteran would have a lot to learn from Cam, we have more important positions to worry about than the back-up QB.

Cam is ready to start, take his lumps, and learn on the field.

Is he ready to be playing at the caliber a team needs out of there starter? No, no rookie is......some teams just hide it better when there OL and running game is doing what it should. Carolina has the talent when healthy for them to do what is needed.

Go Cam. If you can't be excited for a kid with his potential to start the learning process.......how can you be football fan. You can't just expect to watch a playoff team year in and year out. All teams go through periods of taking lumps. This is what we signed up for when we drafted him.....gotta go through the process.

I will 'try' to give Rivera the benefit of the doubt, but...with him being pass happy & going away from an effective run game (effective at times), he allows the defenses to tee-off & has to try to beat them with precise throws; at this time he is not that accurate, but think he will be fine.

I am concerned about Rivera's understanding of how important it is to get the D on their heals before putting Cam in that position. If it trial by fire, then Rivera has not seen the usu. outcome of doing that to rookie QBs.

also, why are you going to lean on DeAngleo to go sledding uphill when you know what he can do......and Cam needs all the reps he can get since so much was lost.

This is what I've been saying for Jimmy Clausen since last year. He's a rookie, he will make mistakes. Patience is key. But you know what? Double standards are abundant around here. It's OK to be patient with Cam but not Jimmy. Only because he's the "future" and in reality it's because he's the #1 pick.

Now Jimmy is looking better, slightly albeit, but better. They are both mediocre at best right now. Jim has experience, whether y'all like it or not, he does. He should start this season out. That's my humble opinion.

I just find it funny to see that Cam is struggling, with the same things Jim did last year, and people make excuses for Cam. But they are the same excuses that were dismissed for Jim last year. It's asinine. "Jimmy 'captain checkdown' Clausen ladies and gentlemen.". Hey, I saw Cam Checking down plenty... "Jimmy can't find teh WR and he gitz the TEs.", Really Cam didn't do the same? It gets annoying reading how everyone supposedly scrutinizes Cam on everything he does, yet, no one cried about it when Jimmy was in the Same boat last year. The hell?!

Now I see some Cam nut huggers saying he sucks, what's up with the loyalty? The ride or die mentality. The general fan base is so wishy washy. It's unbearable.

Patience. It's a virtue. Not everyone will have it. Cam will be alright either way, whether he's sat down or told to start the season. I'm honestly more worried about the lines. Both Defensive and Offensive.

Don't take preseason play calling too serious.

Cam is at least showing he can make some plays when a play breaks down. He might make rookie mistakes, but he's also progressing and making some plays here and there. Jimmy seemed to regress last year..his best time moving the ball was in the preseason last year imo. I can see with my eyes the things Cam will be able to do once things start to slow down for him..I never saw what the payoff was for having play Clausen..

This attitude is so prevalent here. Cam needs a LOT of help and a veteran would have been really helpful but most here thinks he doesn't need it because he is GOAT.

I will be happy if in 2011, we accomplish what Tampa Bay did in 2009 with Josh Freeman, go 5-11 and give Cam great experience. If the following year we go 10-6 like Tampa did in 2010 did we will have rebuilt the team into a contender. We will need the defense to step up and the offensive line to gel and play well. That will improve the running game and give Newton the time to pass the ball. Sure you would like Cam to be better than he is, but if the team plays together it is reasonble to expect to win 5 or 6 games this year. He works hard and give it his all, which is just what Freeman is known for as well. I f we can replicate their success this whole newton debate will quickly dissipate.
