A QB Comparison

Nice, why don't won't people to see Cam start?

If you were someone who first said he wouldnt play QB in the NFL. Then said he wouldnt be drafted in the 1st round. Then said he wouldnt be drafted by us. Then said he was a "thug" and gangbanger. Then said it would take 3 seasons before he became a starter. Then said he'd holdout and be the 2nd coming of "JaMarcus Russell". You would go thru a lot to save face that you were not being irrational and rabid about your self preservation. This is the dilemma these dudes like IvanTheWack, TRD, and Icege are going thru. They never wanted this cat, now they have to pretend they are partial towards him. Sad thing is, these dudes are very transparent, very predictable, and flat out biased. Too many of these dudes have showed their hands waaaaaaaay too early so its gonna be hard to take them seriously in regards to our new QB.

Have you watched him play lately?

You don't get better sitting on the bench unless you are learning from a player that is better than you at the time (i.e. Aaron Rodgers from Brett Favre, Matt Cassel from Tom Brady, Matt Schaub from Michael Vick... and so on and so forth).

If Newton actually had someone decent to learn from then sure, sit him down, give him a clipboard, and tell him to watch, listen, and learn. However, since Newton's only individual to look at is a player that is physically, mentally, athletically, and intelligently worse than him; there is no choice but to put him in and see what happens.

The results have been somewhat mind boggling (few years); in a good way regarding quarterbacks that have been drafted within the first ten picks that have been forced to start right away (i.e. Sam Bradford, Matt Stafford (when healthy), Mark Sanchez, and Matt Ryan). The last three years, the young quarterbacks (taken early in the draft) have succeeded and hopefully Newton, Locker, and Gabbert can keep the trend going.

Yep...and I saw the O and D-line also. You have a mutli-functional QB that can help out when the rest of the team decides it does not want to show up. Strenghthen his arms...give him time to adjust to a new routine in his game and maybe the Panthers just might have their "savior QB." Cause, it's clear this team needs way more than just a sit in the pocket QB.

Also, I'm beginning to get the feeling Ur afraid of what Cam might just bring to this team. U and the usual naysayers in the sports media seem hell-bent on quickly labeling Cam as a "failed" based on five weeks of training including Preseason. Threatened MUCH aren't U.

They gonna need some lotion for the sick burn you just gave em.

Manning also had 4 double digit leads the defense blew, threw for 26tds, 3800yds, had some 3 td games, was NFL offensive player of the week, etc

To compare manning and newton and say they are all projects shows honestly how ignorant the average poster on this board is.

He also threw 28 interceptions, and in his last 9 games, he threw two or more int's in 6 out of 9 games. He contributed a lot to those 13 losses.

Peyton Manning had several advantages over Newton, number one being that he had three years in college, as opposed to one for Newton. That being said, very few people think that Newton is going to be Peyton Manning level. A few perhaps, but not many.

It is correct to say that all rookie qb's are projects. In fact, its absurd to think otherwise. I will go so far as to say that all rookies period are projects. None of them come into the league truly ready, although some have so much raw talent, that its worth it to put them out there. Some coaches are smart enough not to demand much of their rookie qb's and rely on other aspects of the team. Big Ben comes to mind. But the only rookie QB I have seen come into the league and perform at a high level in his first season was Dan Marino.

That's a round-a-bout way of saying he hasn't had enough time to be ready for the NFL compared to others. So why the rush? Let him get more time and bring him in if the other QBs aren't getting it done.

Starting him now puts him at a huge disadvantage to any other rookie QB starter there has been for years because of the delayed training camp. Then chuck in the fact that he does have technical issues that need to be worked on.

If he starts now and plays much of what he is doing now, it COULD affect his development and style of play. If he is dropped, then that's really going to test his character. In contrast if he comes in due to poor performance of others and doesn't improve then at least there will not have the pressure heaped on him.

I really don't understand the need to start him straight away, especially when looking at Freeman (the point of this thread) who came in after the bye for the last 9 games. Freeman still proceeded to stink the place up despite having a full camp and a half a season to get ready.

I know it's impossible to tell how he will play, but right now it looks like the passing game is going to struggle mightily with him under centre. Why rush this, especially when it seems we aren't going to be particularly competitive this year...

He was one of the ones that got out there due to raw talent. But he still made a lot of rookie mistakes, fortunately he had enough talent to overcome, like Marino. But maybe with some experience, he will help Detroits defense make it out of the bottom 1/3 of the league.

So I guess you just don't know what an NFL project is.

Armanti was a project. Kaepernick is a project. Pryor is a project.

Suh was not a project.

AJ Green is not a project.

They might need improvement, but they are not projects. Not by any stretch of the word.
