Well I agree with you on the Meek's ability to devise a scheme that will play to the strengths of our players. I read Sorenson in the Observer and he said he knows a player that played for Meeks and a assts coach that worked with him and thet he will coach to players strengths more than sticking with cover 2 or particular scheme, although cover 2 is his thing. But I still think we need some help on defense as far as personell.

Lucas is still questionable, I thought Marshall was ready to start but he got abused late in the season, If we keep Pep, which seems a possibility now, where will his head be? Can Meeks get into his head? Can Charles Johnson be a starter? The only part of our defense I really feel good about is our safeties, Harris and Godfrey I think are good, and our liebacking corps.

I do think Meeks will improve the defense. I was listening to NFL Sirius today and they were talking about Indy and the topic of cornerbacks and schemes came up. They mentioned that although Dungy used a primary cover 2, last year they used a lot more man coverage becvause the cover 2 is very vulnerable to a good rushing attack. Problem in the NFC South is that most teams have a very good rushing attack. Even NO may have a good one if they do land LT. Still I think he will play to our strengths which is surely not a cover 3. All three of our guys are good physical corners who would do best in bump and run coverage.

Yep, I'm just glad that so many of our fans want us to be like the Saints were last year. Remember all the buzz over the signing of Vilma and Shockey, and how they were guaranteed to win the NFC South because they spent all that money and brought in all that talent?

pre season champs FTW.

Actually I'd blame their season on their rash of injuries, like we've had in the past.

You mean like the injuries to their secondary, which actually played better late in the season, or the Bush injury, which didn't matter at all, because Pierre Thomas is a better RB anyway?

The Panthers don't build through FA, we are always lurking in FA and looking for depth and a couple of "complimentary" players. This team believes in building through the draft and so far it was worked pretty darn good for them... most of the elite talent on this team was acquired through the draft.

The last several times the panthers brought in big-time players in key positions, it didn't work out in the long run. I think right now the panthers are thinking more about the long run than "next year". You will see a lot more need-based drafting than BPA drafting this year. The Draft is one of the cheapest ways to pick up talent. Of course this is a theory, but if you look at our roster, it's gone from being one of the oldest to one of the youngest.

Especially our defense. Beason, Davis, Gamble, Marshall, Godfrey, Harris, CJ Wilson, Johnson. All these guys have had significant playing time the past year. We're not looking for a quick fix like last year.

If we look at the positions which are getting old, then we should have a pretty good idea of what we're going to draft. OLB, D-Line in general(specifically DT), OT, OG, WR.

Also, always prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. Peppers isn't going anywhere until he finds someone willing to give up picks, He'll play out his one year contract. We won't be bringing in people to start via the draft, but get people to backup and get used to the system.

I thought last years FA class was pretty darn good. Vincent, Brayton, Jones, and Omiyale were all great values, and even Hackett made some key plays when he was healthy, not to mention that he was very cheap as far as WR's go. The only one who can be considered a real mistake was Landan Johnson.

Agreed....but these were all low priced and under the radar guys. We can still make these types of moves if/when we free up some cap space.
