I have no clue as to why people are bitching about Cam

Here's your stat of the night I just researched: Cam Newton rushed for 49 yards against the Bengals. Granted, it was a preseason game, but the single highest rushing performance by a Panthers QB in team history was by Randy Fasani on October 20, 2002 against the Falcons. Incredibly, he rushed for 58 yards that game. Second place? In another game against the Falcons a year prior, Chris Weinke rushed for 38 yards. So, if Cam had done that during the regular season, it would have been the second-highest amount of rushing yards a Panther quarterback had put up in the 17-year history of the franchise.

That is fantasitic to know, I'm glad he can run the ball.

Thanks for looking that up.

Then you are not a good detective and need to have your license revoked.

Too many people had high expectations.

i keep seeing people say this, but i don't remember seeing it myself...at least not near the grand scale that people make it out to be.

i've just been waiting for proof and i haven't gotten it. not even when the search function was working.

not a criticism, btw...i just want to see these unrealistic early projections that there were supposedly so many of coming from so many people.

It was the Bengals for god sakes and he was brought down by one defender that barely touched him with his helmet on the second run

You are an idiot and officially a SQUID. The guy knocked his legs out. Your new nickname is Mr. Cranky because your so upset that Cam is the future and Jimmy isnt.

So again, tell us what he gets right?

Post some postive numbers for us...give us something besides your unbiased "opinion" on why I'm wrong...I can tell you the numbers won't agree with you but what the hell do I now...numbers mean nothing

He's ahead with his upper body mechanics in general vs his lower body mechanics. He had a quick release to start with but as Shula's helping him improve his follow through and throwing motion he'll get better. He's not perfect, but he's improved in some categories such as keeping his elbow low while his arm goes back to throw.

The problem is his drop back... is a work in progress. It's not a surprise since he's not used to it. Even if he can make the throws they're going to be erratic like you've seen if his foot placement is bad. Keep in mind he's trying to learn how to set his feet and perfect his stance in the pocket during live action and while Bernadeau's back is almost getting thrown into his head. Then he has to go through a series of motions once he's made his read that involve different parts of his entire body like hip rotation, bending his knees perfectly, etc. At this point Bernadeau's pretty much getting raped with his feet off the ground at 45 mph in Cam's direction. He's not used to pressure like that either but he'll get more comfortable.

When a QB can perfect these skills as good as he can or needs to get better, this is usually the time they regurgitate that old coinage "the game slowed down for me".

All i took from this was bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch and wahhh wahhh

It's his third preseason game in the nfl after only being with the team for little over a month.

Well, aparantly he was ready at the start of the official ota's, since he had been learning the playbook and working with other pro's since the draft.

Either way doesn't matter to me, he just doesn't look ready to start to me.

Yep, and I'm the idiot!

Nice one, I think if you could actually read you would see that I have clearly stated that Anderson should be starting...but I understand...some of us have to clean the toilets and I appreciate the work you do :conehead:

Ok now, this is a better conversation.

You are right, his drop back is the issue. I believe he will get it one day but right now he doesn't. He surveys the field well and when he gets his footwork down he may be golden. Now, he needs to learn when to run and when not to...that will come with time, the only thing I'm worried about is his accuracy and footwork. You can preach it and drill it but he may never get it...I hope he does but RIGHT NOW he doesn't have it and is way behind where he should be.

I still hold firm to my belief that we should wait at least a season before pouncing on the poor rookie. I sort of thought this was common sense but apparently because some blind auburn homers came here after draft day and posted about him revolutionzing the qb position it justifies threads and threads of hate and judgment before 1 nfl game is played. It also justifies those of us who support the qb and at least want to see him play, because lets face it there are no other options, being called homers/nuthuggers/idiots/people who don't know football.

Yay huddle, things won't change.

well i think he has the discipline to get better. I think cam has a good support system going for him and guys that understand the reason his predecessors who had his skill set failed is because instead of refining mechanics and perfecting the pocket game they just harvested their scrambling abilities to where it self limits the progression of the player. In The Golden Calf of Bristol's case it's almost like Denver's a girl who broke up with her baby daddy and her new bf doesn't want anything to do with their son.

Cam has one thing you can't teach and that is throwing velocity on the run. Clausen will never be good at that in this league because he just can't get that kind of velocity on the ball. Cam's already a guy that can elude defenders if he needs to, if he perfects his pocket game, he'll be near unstoppable. So far I've seen him making a concerted effort to stay in the pocket and go through his reads because unless there's nobody open and/or the pocket breaks down miserably he keeps his eyes down field for the most part.

People hate seeing him being compared to Roethlisberger because he's a 2x superbowl winner and it's mistaken for giving Cam premature credentials, but he has the kind of skill set to play similar, and obviously the both of them are harder to bring down. Cam's no where near at his level at this point, but he has the potential to reach those heights. As long as he stays focused on his goals to improve his game and become a dynamic QB, I believe he can do it.

If Anderson should be starting..he would have been..for another team. Not cut and released and then picked up again. Save it man. You've never been an athlete..youre the idiot..why? Youre the guy making the argument in another thread that theres not that much of a difference in running a 4.5 and a 4.7 40 yd dash time. "Oh Cam was tackled down by a guy that barely touched him with his helmet"...really man? really? You must be some nerd pushing his 4 inch thick glasses up his nose trying to watch the game because you have no idea whats really going on and you cant see whats actually happening..obviously...
