I have no clue as to why people are bitching about Cam

I honestly believe there would be more support for Cam if a hefty portion of his pre-draft supporters weren't obnoxious morons.

I honestly believe you wont last as a Panther fan. What are you gonna do when he wins games and receives huge praise? Slit your wrists? You cant handle it. You're rooting for the wrong team.

We were 2 and 14 last year. You can't turn it around that quick, I don't care who you took number 1 overall. Add to that fact we are coming off of a lock out that has put us in a position where we have to learn under the public watch and you have the sentiments of the OP.

Please, especially if you are going to call yourself a fan of the team, get behind your own guys. I don't care what you think about them as far as your own personal "expertise" may tell you, back up those who you are counting on, and leave it to the people in charge, be they competent or not, to handle all of the heavy lifting. I'm not saying don't discuss, don't be frustrated, don't have an opinion. I am just saying, their are a few too many here who have made their minds up that they won't support certain players because of whatever reason.

Was 6-19 good? Hell no it was fuggin terrible. But was it as bad as people are making it out to be? Absolutely not. Back up our guy. Show him some support. We are the fans, we might even be able to help the kid turn the corner. But if you insist on being an ass, and sticking to your oh we should have drafted so n so poo crap, and oh look at how bad his foot work is or he threw it over the guys head, find a new team to root for because we, as panthers, will be backing Cam Newton, and we will be pulling for him to make strides and to develop into a quarterback that can lead us to a super bowl championship.

Get behind it or GTFO.

I think he'll be good. IF the coaches don't overcoach him. He looked better by far in his first game because he was loose and just playing. He is a natural talent and they need to build around his innate greatness, not try to tailor him to be Joe Montana or whatever they are doing. Then when he has confidence and is in a good rhythm, gradually adjust his mechanics. Tell him everything he is doing right, not wrong. He's really got "it", if they don't F it up.

Shula I'm sure is smart, but he was a total loser for Alabama and I watched a lot of those games.

Just my thoughts on it.

well i think he has the discipline to get better. I think cam has a good support system going for him and guys that understand the reason his predecessors who had his skill set failed is because instead of refining mechanics and perfecting the pocket game they just harvested their scrambling abilities to where it self limits the progression of the player. In The Golden Calf of Bristol's case it's almost like Denver's a girl who broke up with her baby daddy and her new bf doesn't want anything to do with their son.

Cam has one thing you can't teach and that is throwing velocity on the run. Clausen will never be good at that in this league because he just can't get that kind of velocity on the ball. Cam's already a guy that can elude defenders if he needs to, if he perfects his pocket game, he'll be near unstoppable. So far I've seen him making a concerted effort to stay in the pocket and go through his reads because unless there's nobody open and/or the pocket breaks down miserably he keeps his eyes down field for the most part.

People hate seeing him being compared to Roethlisberger because he's a 2x superbowl winner and it's mistaken for giving Cam premature credentials, but he has the kind of skill set to play similar, and obviously the both of them are harder to bring down. Cam's no where near at his level at this point, but he has the potential to reach those heights. As long as he stays focused on his goals to improve his game and become a dynamic QB, I believe he can do it.

he shows incredible discipline (or a refined habit) of keeping his eyes down field.. a huge plus for a rookie.

Good thread OP.

I don't understand why people are already up in arms about Cam based on preseason.

Cam looks like a rookie he's up and down.

What's more you can't really tell how Cam looks because we don't know this coaching staff's M.O. when it comes to preseason.

Are they gameplanning a lot or a little?

Are they trying to work on something specific in the preseason games or are they trying to win games/look good?

I'm a Redskins fan and under Joe Gibbs preseason meant less then nothing.

Gibbs didn't gameplan and everbody looked like they stunk.

With preseason you just never know.

Cam might be ahead of schedule or could be woefully behind.

We won't know until a real game is played.

I've seen Cam make/complete more "NFL" type throws downfield (skinny post, deep comeback, corner route, vertical seam, go route) then the other rookie QBs and for me that's a good for preseason.

Cam displayed the ability to make throws that an OC can build an offense around.

I think it takes a lot to be a consistent top NFL QB!!! When we Drafted Cam #1 overall that's what we were drafting him in hopes of being. So far....

His learning of the offense is about where I expected it to be... no issues here as that will take time

His Pocket presence is better than I expected it to be.

My complaint, his accuracy has been horrid IMO. This is where I actually expected him to be decent/ usually what I expect rookie QB's to do well at. Being able to place the ball where it needs to be really isn;t a NFL/College thing, it's more of a skill thing. Unless his accuracy greatly improves I don't see him being able to be that top consistent NFL QB... I think he could still be good, but not great. So this is what I will be watching over the year as this is where he is nowhere to close to being where I expected him to be.

At the end of the day, you need all of these skills plus a little more to be a top flight QB... So while he may be on point and excelling at other areas, if he doesn't improve in this one area he won't have the potential to reach some expectations for him... IMO

Give him more than 4 weeks to see this 'improvement' k?

When fans were throwing fake money at him it didn't bother him at all. He was posed and focused and knew what the had to do and that was win. Through thick or thin cam newton is the future of the carolina panthers. When he puts this team on his back i hope all the hater get a good helping of crow.
