Yes, another Peppers thread.

I believe it was Skew that mentioned, in another thread, that peppers could wait to sign his tag up until the 14th game. At that point he would be paid his 16 million for playing in 2 games. I'm interested in others opinion. I have mentioned that peppers was acting like a spoiled brat because of his not signing the tag, or being more active in searching out another team. Does anyone else feel that he is trying to hurt the team instead of help? He made a statement that he wanted to do what was best for both he and the team. He has been treated like royalty on this team. He has made a lot of money and I think most of us feel he has not been worth the price. He has had great moments and definitely has potential for many great moments, but he has not been worth the money. I would be thoroughly pissed if he held out until the last moment, signed the tag, and collected the money. He isn't a dummy by no means, but I thought he had more integrity.

If he waited till the 10th game to sign, the Panthers would cut him before he got two games in. On top of that, it would destroy his chances of EVER getting a big pay day.

yeah, this would drop his value down a lot. anything that he does to hurt the team will be seen as a big negative for any other team wanting him. all he is going to do is get 1 year contract offers from then on. very few teams would feel that they could depend on him for long before his wanderlust kicked in. this also makes him seem a lot less of a team player than what they would like to sign big multi year contracts to.

The entire tag is not owed to Pepp if he doesn't sign before the 1st game. The amount is prorated on a per game basis of about $1 million per game. If he waits until the 10th game to sign, he get's a whopping $6 million the rest of the season. It is not in Peppers best interest to not sign the tender.

Peppers may be thinking everything over again... maybe he is thinking about staying in Carolina...

If he wanted out of Carolina bad enough, we would have heard something by now about his agent talking to other teams.

I like it. It would be nice if he told the Panthers, "withdraw the FT and I will sign a contract". But I don't think that will happen.
