Last night proved (again) that CB is our biggest need

if we can stop the run at the line of scrimmage we dont' need to have 8/9 man fronts and get burnt in one on one deep balls..Gamble might be ok with covering the top guy with no help on short routes but I dunno if he's able to keep up with a top flight reciever on a deep route with no safety help..not many are.

After watching them gash Captain's side over and over, I really miss Marshall's excellent run support.

If we have to rely on our CB's for run support in the Rivera / McDermott scheme, we might as well rehire Fox. Our linebackers should make those plays. They are compromised because our DTs are getting steamrolled.

Just my take, and to me it's quite simple. Without ranking our needs in order:

A great D-line can make average CB's great, with QB pressure and run-stopping forcing a one-dimensional approach by the opposition, full of quick throws and disruption of timing. HOWEVAH...

A great CB or pair of CB's with a pooty D line, are going to look poor more often than not. They can't cover guys for that long when a QB has all day to redirect traffic, nor are they a value to come up to help blitz or hit the running lanes, because then the QB audibles to a quick hit when there is single coverage or worse.

It starts up front, I don't see how this can be argued at all.
