6/19 75 yards....

Cam does not really need to be groomed by a vet. He actually appears to be making pretty good decisions on the field.

He needs work on his footwork, mechanics, etc.. And those are things that the coaching staff need to spend time with him on at practice.

Exactly. And if the coaching staff is spending all their time with the starter getting ready for the game if Cam were the backup, how much time would he get in practice?

He needs practice time and then time in a game so that what he learns in practice translates to the field. Many times players revert back to their old habits under pressure. the only way to beat that is to keep putting them in games until the newly learned habits become second nature.

Start Culpepper! Stafford looked abysmal in his 2nd preseason start. 5-13 34 yards, and an INT on the FIRST PLAY of the game. But hey, lets hold this years #1 draft pick to a higher standard. Guarantee if Luck was here, the response would be so different.

we hate on Cam because hes black in other words?

we aren't going to the Superbowl.. I'm good with Clausen starting and letting Cam adjust to the NFL..

why didn't Clausen get the same fair chance? well, life isn't fair..

He did. Moore was the starter and struggled and then got hurt. No one to blame there. Plus Clausen came in touted as NFl ready. Newton surely wasn't.

That was from Rivera's mouth, not mine, lol. We don't see him everyday of practice and aren't able to break down game film every Monday with them, so it would be hard to argue either way.

He seemed to be throwing off his backfoot LESS to me last night, but IMO, his issues are consistent footwork and accuracy (which some equate to mechanics). His actual throwing motion and arm are elite-level, it's the feet and actual placement of the pass on a consistent basis that he needs to tighten up IMO.

I know that Rivera said it. And, maybe he is improving in practice. I am only basing my comment on what I have seen on the field for the past 3 games. And, he has not improved his footwork in those games.

Which part?

That he is making good decisions?

Or, that he needs to work with the coaches on his mechanics?

He's not making a lot of BAD decisions, that doesn't make them good by default.

That's not what I mainly disagree with, though. I played oraginized sports from 5 until 20 years old and while you get the bulk of you information from the coaches, usually the 'nuggets' of really good learning material comes from older peers. While you will point out they were not professional coaches, the wisdom wasn't from professional players either. The point is you form closer bonds with your cohorts than the authoritative figures, amature or professional. They also play and not stand on the sideline, thus the information is more hands on and respected by players from other players.

Unbelievable.

You are making him sound like Terrelle Pryor from that description. lol Or at least a guy that wasn’t worthy of the #1 overall pick because when was the last time you could say the #1 QB in the draft class was a project.

Did you miss the whole high risk high reward discussions for months? The whole notion of why newton was worth the number 1 pick was because of his athletic potential down the road not his ability to perform out of the chute. As for him and Terelle Pryor, the difference is Cam is a hard worker with high character we have come to find out. Pryor not so much. As for being the number 1 pick, how many experts didn't even want to pick him in the first round??

Compared to what it looked like in April it is worlds improved. As for what they are concentrating on I would think footwoork is not number 1. How about learning the playbook while they are still installing plays and reading defenses for starters. Seriously we are working each week on plays we are installing which we unveil in the game. I suspect in the regular season we will do more gameplanning and cut down on the playbook at which time he can concentrate more fully on footwork and mechanics. Right now everything is a blur.

I'll buy that.

And, everything you are saying still supports my opinion that he likely WILL end up being very good. Just that he is not ready now.

Work on his mechanics and let him start when he is ready.

If I am an opposing coach, I send the house on every play until the Panthers show they can handle it.

So where were the screens and quick outs last night? I had a bad feed and may have missed some, but to me, that game plan last night (and against Miami as well) was not rookie QB friendly.

The question is why? Why was the game plan so much more vanilla last night than in the first preseason game? I would really like to know.

And by the way, Zod, if you think throwing Beason in there is going to magically transform the defense we saw last night, I want some of what you are smoking.

People calling for andrew luck after 7 quarters make me sick. He's completed 30% of his passes. Come on, we still have yet to see the kid with his complete offensive line. This team were seeing is not the final product. The defense was missing alot of starters, and there will surely be wavier pick ups. Relax, i exspect there will be a completely diffrent game plan when the season starts. Notice the lack of high percentage pass plays. No screens, slants or dump offs. We will see a lot more stew and d-lo.

Plenty of experts had him not worthy of the #1 pick but that’s not my point. My point was when was the last time a #1 overall QB was descried as a project? I already know the differences between him and Pryor.
