6/19 75 yards....

True, Cam was off, way off, but I hope as his comfort level improves, so does his game. He does keep his eyes downfield, and when they roll him out, he seems comfortable making those throws. Accuracy will come (I hope).

Now, allowing Howdy Doody in a fuggin Bengals helmet to pick our starting defense apart like that, well that's far more concerning to me right now. Not even close.

When it comes down to either Cam or Clausen..... to me Cam is the better option. I would have liked to see Derek Anderson get some real playing time to see if maybe he was the best QB right now on the roster and let him start.

Either way, if the defense keeps playing the way it has this season is gonna be worse then I would have thought.

Seriously?

I mean... seriously?

Tell me thats a mistake. Tell me Cam completed more than 31% of this passes. Steve Smith was back in there right?

Here's a fun question... what would be happening on this board right now if Jimmy played 3 quarters and completed only 31% of his passes?

I am starting to lean towards not starting Cam this season. His footwork above all else is god awful and appears to be getting worse. He needs a full season of nothing but book work and foot work. Throwing him in there with this O-Line is going to ruin his career.

And before someone bring sup the fact that this is a redundant thread, I pay the bills around here and will post a thread dedicated to this morning's bowel movement if I want. It was loose, but still held together.

Love,

I agree don't start Cam and lets let Brady start the rest of the season.

Oh wait, we don't have Tom Brady on the team. Then who are our choices??

What?? Jimmy "David Carr Junior" Clausen and Derek " can't even beat out Clausen" Anderson???

Well I don't like Newton because he is inaccurate. Anybody is better than him at this point. I like Clausen because he can complete 60% of his passes and has a real bead on the checkoff guy. What?? This is what David Carr did and they blitzed him mercilessly?? What?? He can't move the chains......

But Cam is inaccurate and should be much better given he has been in the NFl for 4 weeks. We all know he needs to sit and learn. What??? You don't think that you learn much from practice being the backup and getting 25% of the snaps in practice versus getting 75% with the 1s as the starter.

Look he needs to sit behind Clausen and Anderson and watch what they do and copy their mechanics. What?? You don't think that they can teach him much except to panic uner pressure and throw picks or dump the ball 5 yards down the field. What??? You think that once the season starts Chud will stop trying to have him go down the field and pick safer shorter passes but he is using the preseason to let him try and throw it down the field.

Throwing him in here with this o line will ruin him. What?? He runs pretty good, is bigger than 90% of the players out there and seems to avoid pressure pretty well.

But it is embarrassing to see him only complete 33% of his passes... What??? He is only going to get better and this is still the preseason. What??

It's a coin flip really. Think about how good our defense was at times last year but they broke down and tired out because our offense was so atrocious. So, even if our defense gets back to where they were(which seems pretty doubtful) we still have to do something about our anemic offense.

It's a mess.

Josh Freeman threw a 37.5 comp. % and a 41.2 % in the last two PS games of his rookie year. Both games he threw over 15 times he threw his lowest completion % of the preseason. Also of note, only the 41.2% game was the one he started and it was the final PS game of the year, most likely against the other teams' scrubs.

So, keep it in perspective guys. How'd he turn out?

Don't forget that he is a stellar 21 for 52 for a 40.4% completion percentage on the entire preseason.

Let's face facts people, Cam isn't ready. Frankly, he's not even close. Sure, not all of this is his fault, his line is terrible which is killing the running game and allowing too much pressure but as previously stated his footwork is horrific and he is not handling pressure well at all.

BENCH HIM AND LET HIM DEVELOP. Throw Anderson out there, at least at some point during his career he DID experience success. I'd rather see what he can do or throw Clausen to the wolves than destroy a guy that our management apparently thinks is the future of our franchise. If we start him and he loses all the confidence that he has we might end up with a David Carr/Akili Smith situation. I don't think any of us wants that.

Cam ain't going to develop on the bench....at some point you will have to go through the growing pains w/ him. Might as well get it over with now......

Cam even if he reaches his potential will never have great stats.

Matthew Stafford, selected first by Detroit in April’s draft, threw an interception on Detroit’s first play and went 5 of 13 for 34 yards. He also overthrew a wide-open Adam Jennings for a potential TD in the first half.

“That’s what football is,” Stafford said. “You’ll play good some weeks and bad some weeks. The tough part about preseason is you get your allotted amount of plays. You can have a bad 25 plays and not get a chance to come back and fix it and make it right in the second half.”

Lions coach Jim Schwartz, who inherited a team that went 0-16 last season, also has yet to settle on a starting QB. Daunte Culpepper, competing with Stafford, went 10 of 16 for 86 yards.

Start Culpepper! Stafford looked abysmal in his 2nd preseason start. 5-13 34 yards, and an INT on the FIRST PLAY of the game. But hey, lets hold this years #1 draft pick to a higher standard. Guarantee if Luck was here, the response would be so different.

Rivers and Rodgers are two great examples of QB's who sat a couple of years and had time to adjust to the speed of the NFL and the work that it took to be a top notch QB. Not to mention those guys were MUCH better prepared for an NFL offense than Cam Newton already. I am, and have always been, of the opinion that the majority of rookie QB's need some bench time before they get thrown in there. ESPECIALLY on bad teams, which we are. I just don't see that payoff of "letting him learn" out there while playing with no receivers, no blocking and no running game.
