Last year the Panthers went out and got an over-the-hill receiver that no one else wanted, a first round bust from the Raiders, and a few tons of offensive guards that used to have good games but who weren't really pursued by other teams. We turned that motley collection into three starters.

We will probably take the same approach this year on the defensive line as we did last year on the offensive line. Look for one good starter out of that activity. I'm assuming that Peppers plays as a Panther next year, and it will be another contract year for him so that's going to be solid. Is anyone seriously worried about our linebackers? The secondary is suspect at Lucas' spot but we have decent depth there.

Right now the Panthers are doing what they're supposed to be doing. You can say they've done nothing, but locking up a pro-bowl left tackle and a defensive end who didn't want to play here is something, and there's still a lot of time left.

If you were among the people who were cheering the Brayton signing last year and predicted great things from Vincent, then go ahead and complain about the lack of activity. Otherwise, just shut up and chill. :)

I agree with you about doing to the defensive line what we did to the offensive line last year.

I also am going on record that while I liked Fonoti more than Vincent last year I was on the Brayton bandwagon early on even when many were kicking him to the curb before the season and even in training camp. But I still am quite content to see who we can pick up as things progress. The lack of cap space is by the Pathers own design so obviously they aren't too hung up on the lack of activity. Since they are in the middle of it and proceeding without panic, there seems no reason for me or anyone else to take a " the sky is falling" attitude.

Wanting to go out and spend williy nilly in FA whether it's wise or not is like when there's a brand new store opening up or a much coveted new product coming out and people line up outside the store the night before waiting for it only to get overcharged for something that will probably cost 1/3 less 2 mos later.

I'm not worried about the Panthers not playing the FA game. I do wish that Hangartner could have been re-signed but even if the Panthers had the money I doubt he would have stayed, he was looking for a chance to start. I am a little worried about the lose of Jones, Kyle and Goings. For two seasons we had horrid ST and it finally looked as if the team found a good combinatin of players and scheme. Hangartner was also a part of a lot ST plays. This area is more concerning to me than the o-line deapth or d-line.

Our big move in FA has already happened when we tagged Pep and eliminated ourselves from FA altogether.

and in my opinion we are NOT getting into the first round this year.

EDIT: any fan on here who is not upset that we aren't making waves in FA EVERY year needs to realize that if you are not going forward you are going backward..there is not standing still in the NFL.

Sorry, I just don't agree with that take. You grow a team through the draft. You kill your team through the cap hell that is free agency. A few depth men for cheap and a good draft with our 1st rounder for Peppers and we'll have improved...

So...let's just say that Pep had signed his tender the day he was franchised. You mean to tell me we'd still have not one new person signed right now? I find that hard to believe. I understand how value can be found at later stages in the offseason but the only reason we're not doing anything is because of Pep. Not because we're smarter than 31 other teams. This is why we have restructured some guys already, because we need the damn money in case Pep stays. We don't have a 1st, which will help money wise, but if you think Fox and Hurney are sitting back and waiting while laughing at people spending all this money, you and Kirwan are fooling yourselves. KEEP THIS IN MIND, yes people do want us to make a splash, but guess what, those scrubs we may have brought in next month...were available weeks ago too.

just last year we signed muhsin muhammad, starting DE Tyler Brayton, and starting rg keydrick vincent

And how did they do? Exactly!!

Now is the time you pick up second tier people like Vincent (signed last year in early March) and Brayton (signed last year in early March) and Moose (signed last year in February). The big names are gone. My point is we can't do anything anyway so this thread is pointless.
