If the OLine is so bad...

Just a little note, Aaron Rodgers looked terrible in practice/etc in his early years riding the bench.

I know you folks hate the idea of another awful season, because I do too. But it's best for the franchise if Cam sits and works on his issues.

that's debatable.

why did rodgers sit? because he wasn't ready, or because there was a future HoFer in front of him? would have he done well if he started as a rookie? considering the success of other rookies that have started in the last decade esp., there is a lot of reason to believe he would have done OK. there is no proof one way or another that sitting is better or worse for the QB. no QB comes in 100% ready. there is always a lot to learn.

will this franchise benefit from sitting him? maybe. will it benefit from letting him play? maybe. benefit of letting him play is that he gets to grow with his young team and he gets to implement what he learns at a faster pace...learning faster and better. the oline gets used to him. his receivers get used to him. the system evolves around him and he grows into the system.

if there was someone significantly better or someone entrenched in the job, it would make total sense to let him sit. if he was lazy it would make sense. if he was turnover machine, it might make sense. if the guy was a wuss, it would make sense. if he was fragile physically, it would make sense. it would also make sense if we were desperate to get in the playoffs this year.

i just don't see any of those being the case.

So you would rather force the issue now, than give him a year to bed in what he needs to and possibly turn him into an elite QB? That still gives us 2-3 years to know what we have.

Insane logic

what if it's that he goes through this ugly patch with the team that makes him an elite QB?

what if it's this battling through a bad season and struggling with his team, but still keeping his head straight and motivating the team to get better that makes this team better?

it can happen. i'd rather he fight this year with his team than let him sit on his ass while the rest of the team struggled. it's not about cam, necessarily. it's about this team growing together. if it's going to be cam's team, let him grow up with them. let him earn respect by struggling in the trenches with them.

When I thought our OLine was going to be decent-to-good, I was all for starting Cam and letting him learn on the fly.

Complete 180 at this point. Unless the line starts playing a lot better, what is Newton going to learn? To run around and throw off his back foot because Bernadeau is in his lap 2 seconds after the ball is snapped?

Throw one of the expendable guys out there, cruise to 4-6 wins and let Newton develop.

almost half the OL is out so far in the preseason......OL could still be decent to good when the season starts.

Most QBs who have had success as rookies the past decade have had 4+ years of D1 college football under their belt to perfect their mechanics before they ever male it the NFL.

If Cam had that college experience then maybe your argument would make sense.

Just as most QBs redshirt their freshman year in college to work on technique, Cam needs to redshirt at least a couple of games until his footwork is up to par with other rookies coming into this league.

Im still for letting Anderson show what he has. If he does well then thats great and if he does not then we can yank him and let Newton learn on the job. I still like the idea of Letting Anderson play and bringing Cam in on choice plays.

Not really, b/c again, the only reason GB sat Rodgers is b/c they had QB signicantly better than him still on the roster. If he had a version of Clausen and DA on this roster then.....Rodgers would have been doing his learning on the field instead of the sidelines.

Cam hasn't exactly been a poster boy for accuracy yet, but when I watched Miami and Cinci I did notice that when the O-line was getting bullrushed right into Cam, he could at least throw a ball over both lines without it being batted down. If poor Jimmy is back there, we will see twice the batted down passes we saw last year.

Now all of a sudden people throwing out Anderson to start. First most of yall was completely against the idea lol

I btw disagree with damage. He has size and is mobile. Freeman wasn't damaged his first year

Freeman was sacked just 19 times in the first year, whereas in one more game Clausen was sacked an additional 13 times (313 to 344 dropbacks respectively). Our OLine is basically exactly the same as it was last year, so it's likely things won't change significantly.
