Actually on second thought, I really don't think Asante could take Gamble's #1 spot. So he could actually be a good #2 for a good number of years.

seriously?

Samuel is easily a top 4 CB right now and clearly better than Gamble. You don't think he would even be the #1 CB here?

what would happen is we would go from a weak secondary....to having possibly the best 1 2 combos in the NFL.

I call bs for the simple fact that they didn't go after a CB the entire FA period. Why give up a 2nd rounder now after all that talent was available to be bought?
Because they didn't realize how bad the situation actually was?
exactly.
hell, some of us on this very board did and its not even our job..
they wanted to wait and see...esp. considering the amount of money they had spent. 2 preseason games in and i think they have a pretty good/more accurate idea of what they need/want in a corner.

2nd round is just too high for a 30 year old CB. Wait and see what comes available in cuts first. Bryant McFadden is a good option, if he does come loose. And no way Munnerlyn doesn't make the team. He will at least be the nickel.

I apologize I did not mean to imply Munnerlyn will be cut. He might not start over Standford or McClain.

ding ding ding!

we have hit the nail on the head. Imagine we still had our superbowl front 4? Rucker, Buckner, Jenkins, and a hard-working Peppers!. Anderson, Beason, Davis behind them. It wouldnt matter if we had Gamble and 3 parapalegics behind them. that front 7 would have been DIRTY.

that caliber front 4 comes along once in a decade.......for one team practically. Much easier to build an all around D than going for the super front 4 like we had.

1. Revis

2. Aso

3. Woodson?

You think Samuel is that good? I like him a lot, but is he really top 4?

Yes. that is why I said top 4.

Samuel is probably the best off coverate corner in the game. Aso is better in man.......but Aso isn't better than him in all schemes.

I won't be surprised if we give up a lot for Asante. It's obvious JR wants to build this team up as quick as possible, just look at how he pushed Marty during the Lee Evans talks. Luckily, in that case, Marty didn't give in and over bid for Evans. But with Asante, it is much more likely we give up more than what most of us on here would like us to.

A lot of you guys are opposed to him due to his age. I think we can all agree he will be serviceable for at least 4 more years. Most good corners can play into their mid 30's.

Although I wouldn'nt classify it as a steal I wouldnt be fuming mad if we gave up a 2nd for him.

Besides who was our last 2nd round pick to give us several good years?
