Addiction

So I am trying to stop dipping (again). For those who don't know what that is, it is the stuff in the round cans near the cigarettes in the gas station. I have gotten down to 1 a day. I still feel like I need that 1 every day. I do know that I DON'T need it, but the craving is still there. I don't want to chew gum or something like that to replace, because that creates another dependency. Any tips on how to get through quitting entirely? I just have to make it 72 hours (from what I hear) and I will be good for a while before I crave. Then, after that craving, a little while longer, until eventually I don't want it at all.

i dipped alot while i was in the navy because of stress so i know about the temptation. I've been dip free about 5 months now thoa and what gets me through it honestly is sunflower seeds and the fact that everytime i dipped i had to take a poo. If i were you id start using snus to help ween you off your dipping because you don't have to spit and it has a considerbly less amout of tobacco then straight cut or bags. Also when you get the craving to put in a fatty put in a fatty of sunflower seeds. It helps trust me

Note: go to the dentist and he can really put scare you into stopping. When i reluctently told him about my prior dipping he scared me into stopping and it worked.

I think you have to go 21 days before you really won't crave it anymore...not sure where I heard that though.

I've quit a couple times cold turkey then a rough weekend with old dip buddies gets me started again.

If it's just the habit of something in your lip it's easier to break than being addicted. Seeds works great for me.

Good luck man.

This dentist used to dip, and i did that to quit the cigs.

If I never see or smell another cig again that would be fine, but I still would very much like to enjoy a pinch of Skoal.

I use the gum now, it works, and I haven't dipped in 5 years.

But again, if it wasn't for the kids I'd probably do it.

And yeah, I'm just a bit familiar with the potential problems with the habit.

My advice: If you quit, stay quit. Never touch it again. Ever.

One DIP a day or one CAN a day? If its one dip a day its obviously in your head man. Just stop. When I quit cigs I exercised and fuged alot. Helps.

One dip. I was at one can a day about 2 weeks ago. Been weening off. I already rubbed one out. Thinking the gym is next before dinner, then dinner, then the Panthers game and going to Asheville tonight to get fuged up. All of that should help. This is my first day WITHOUT in forever. Not too terrible, but I am keeping myself busy on here. And with porn.

Last July I felt a pea sized lump in my jaw under my toungue. I had been trying to quit for years and was down to one a day or one every other day. On the road in my sales gig in hotel rooms or during drinking is when I'd dip the most. I went to a specialist. Had a CT scan that cost me $1500 out of pocket. Then went home and looked at my 6 month old and 5 year old and thought about them being raised without a dad or with a dad missing half his face. Haven't had a dip since July 14, 2010. I don't even have cravings anymore even when my buddy's dip.

You want to scare yourself into quitting? Search mouth cancer on WebMD.

CT scan was negative but I have to go back once a year to monitor the situation even though they think it's just a calcium deposit.

Good luck dude. That sh*t is nasty but once you stop you'll be glad you did. I also recycle more plastic bottles now, so I am helping the environment.
