most overrated player in NFL history

top dawg

Deion Sanders love him or hate him SHUT down his side of the feild from his atlanta days till his first two years with the cowgirls. If you were to combine all the attributes that you would look for in the perfect D.B., Deion would foot the bill. Same with Moss, the guy single handely changed the NFL when he came into the league. I remember the NFC north poo their pants after his rookie year and every team in the north planned their draft on how they planned to play Moss two times a year. No overrated player in the nfl will make his whole division alter their whole M.O. and plan around that player.

The who is the most overrated receiver in the NFL? STEVE SMITH???

receiver is a little different than some other positions. they generally hit the wall pretty damn hard, so people are generally realistic.

terrell owens still receives the coverage of an elite wide receiver, for example.

Some of you guys are just hatin'. You can't be for real. Deion Sanders? Randy Moss? Ray Lewis? Franco Harris? Lynn Swann? Brett Favre? Et cetera? Et cetera?

How can you say this with a straight face? These guys, throughout their careers, have excelled at their positions. Let's not even talk about their prime. So what if Moss's stats dropped in Oakland. What's that got to do with anything?

I have seen all of these guys play, and none of them IMHO are overrated.

Like I said before, guys like Franco and Swann were playing in a different era, but within that era they were at the very least good-great players (never mind the fact that they ALWAYS showed up/out in the postseason, and have multiple rings to prove it). Favre may have been a little bit over hyped, I will admit, but he put fear in the opposition because of his ability to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Moss, Lewis and especially Sanders were/are masters at their respective positions.

Any coach, or fan, in their right minds would take any one of these guys in their prime. Moss is a threat to score every down. Lewis will make RBs, WRs, and QBS have very bad days and catch a case of Chris-Carr-itis (continuous state of being shell-shocked), and Neon Deion was a threat to take it to the house every time he touched the ball (on both sides of the ball).

I would rather fight with these guys than go against these guys in their prime, and that does not make for being overrated.

Some people just love the reaction.

i mean honestly i'd make an argument for art monk.

his numbers are kinda good but the man just ran one damn route his entire career and was beating up on scabs during part of it.

So penalize the guy for being a men among boys? Who are these scabs of which you speak? I can argue that the NFL of old is better than it is today. It's all in perspective.

AS I SAID.....he ain't on the fast road to stardom(especially being so highly sought after because of coming out of USC). See it or classify as you wish, but it is a very true statement.

Too bad the name of this thread is "most overrated player in NFL history". Jarrett isn't rated enough to be overrated...nor was he ever.

Top Dawg Brett Favre is Jake Delhomme with a cannon for an arm. They both have the gunslinger style of play. Hell I'd even say Jake makes better decisions with the football.

I can see why you'd say that on a superficial level, but---even now---Favre is an NFL legend. I have never thought Favre was the greatest QB out there, but there's something to be said for a winner who can straight put a dagger through your heart. Favre was basically just stronger than Jake period. In his day, he could slither out of the pressure, just as Big Ben does today, and make a big play. If you can mentally fathom this: Favre was just more of a fighter than Jake has been throughout his career, and that game toughness stands for something.

I see Jake as the Poor man's version of Favre. He doesn't have the arm strength, the mobility, the determination, the success, or the stats that Favre has had, but he does put you in the mind of Favre on occasion---especially the post 35 year old version of Favre. Moreover, the offense basically centered around Favre, where Jake has been more of a game manager.
