most overrated player in NFL history

top dawg

Recommended Posts

One of the worst on the Panthers was also one of the worst all time. Jason Peter

First rounder for us who played for 4 years and had a career total of only 83 tackles and 7 1/2 sacks. Developed a drug addiction and lost it. Almost as bad as Rae Carruth who was obviously our worse 1st tound draft pick ever. Probably the worse in the NFL.

it's joe namath and it's not even close.

50% completion rate. 220 int/173 td

Yep, he was overrated. The only reason he's even famous is the 69 Super Bowl and he made a commercial with Farrah Fawcett. Though I wouldn't say he was the most overrated in history. There are plenty of so-called "players" who have him beat.

Number 14th in the draft and a first rounder in 1998. Someone had him rated as one of the best DEs in the college game after having a big college career at Nebraska. Sounds like a highly rated guy.

If you would classify as a big bust rather than overrated, I could agree with that.

woww, the 1989 draft had a sh*tload of talent. THe first 5 picks were

1. Troy Aikman

2. Tony Mandarich

3. Barry Sanders

4. Derrick Thomas

5. Deion Sanders

I can see why he'd be considered a bust.

damn, there's most of a HOF ballot right there. Performing average out of that group would almost be considered not performing at all. Case in point, Tony.

As for biggest NFL bust...gotta go with Nate Odomes. How do you bust worse than signing a major contract and then never playing a single game for the team you signed with through two years?

Emmit Smith

Could you imagine what barry sanders could have done behind the o-lines of the Cowboys in the 90's ? Another player currently that i think fits that emmith smith over-rated role is L.T. in san deigo. Maybe it's just me but when I hear some people talk about him being top 5 all time I just don't see it. I think he has played behind some pretty stout lines and he becomes good inside the 20 or in the redzone. But even at his peak I always felt there were always 3 or 4 backs better.
