wow race issues running rampant on ESPN today, time to turn the channel

now they're saying if a white guy were in Vick's shoes they would have gotten community service, and it would have been swept under the rug

these guys are so fuging dumb I can't watch anymore.

I can understand what J.R. is doing here. The Hip Hop Movement killed the NBA. How many tattooed, braids and earring guys did you see in the Golden Age of the NBA when Jordan, Barkley, Malone and Olajuwon played? None. Until that freak Dennis Rodman came along...it just isn't good for business.

I think Cam is smarter than that, though.

David Stern implementing a dress code was one of the smartest things that could have been done. There was a huge image crisis in the NBA, and Stern was smart enough to see it was hurting the league. Watching players like Antoine Walker, Allen Iverson, Darius Miles, etc...walk up before the game in a Scarface t-shirt.....SMH..... If I had money like that my ass would stay in custom tailored suits. Looking respectable is part of being taken seriously.

Another thing I noticed, during the final days of the lockout this year, when ESPN was showing the player representatives, owners, and lawyers being dropped off in NY for the final meetings, I was impressed with how professional these "dumb jocks" looked. They looked like they were gathering for a board meeting at a fortune500 company. Until....I saw Takeo Spikes. Dude was wearing a black Bob Marley t-shirt and blue jeans.

I would say this is ridiculous but, Jerry should have kept his mouth shut.
why? it wasn't intended to be a big deal. it was jsut a comment JR made about newton's choice of appearance. it's not JR's fault that people are spinning it like they are. he didn't say anything wrong. it's just an opinion/preference that he shared. are only a few people allowed to share their opinions? only of they jump on whatever social bandwagon opinion? he's fine. he's done or said nothing wrong. it's not like he sent a memo to newton or anyone that they aren't allowed to get tats or holed poked in them. it's not like he told newton that they wouldn't draft him if he had that or did that.

Oh I agree.....

Cam has choosen his own appearance which is different than the overwelhming majority of most African Americans in the NFL today.

Jerry basically just said he liked Cam's style....which is old school style. Makes sense. He said it in Jerry's way though.....which shouldn't be hard for our fanbase to understand yet we are helping fuel this fire.

true.

re: JR's way of talking, we essentially have an owner who awkwardly words things who drafted a QB that awkwardly words things.

ESPN really is having a field day with this though. From Mike & Mike, to First Take, The Herd & Sportscenter.

I love how certain idiotic talking heads(Bagless) want to bring up Jeremy Shockey to try & make it a race issue, but never mention the Panther's best WR who is also inked up his arms.

Pretty sure Smitty even has them up on his neck.....funny that they only want to use Shockey as the example

Of course it was made into a race thing from Rob Parker, that's how he spins everything. It's not about race, and it's not about "The Man" holding people down.

My employer doesn't allow piercings, visible tattoos, or hair over a certain length. Is that outrageous? No. Most employers are like that.

It's called the business look, whether casual or formal.

If JR was a racist I don’t believe he would have drafted Cam to be the leader of his team and face of the franchise. Many experts had Cam rated behind Gabbert so if Jerry wanted a white QB instead of a "colored" boy, he could have easily selected Gabbert and few people would have questioned the decision.

Note: I only used the word “colored” because I imagine many in the media think JR actually speaks that way.

We should've known this would be overblown especially by ESPN. We heard about this during the draft. Everyone who knows how JR is knows he's just an old school dude. If he really had a problem, Smitty wouldn't be rolling shotgun in the golf cart. I look at it as him actually complimenting Cam's appearance. Basically telling him he has a clean cut look and should keep it. I didn't hear about him saying if you get dreds, piercings or tats you're off the team. Gotta love the media. They bash Cam and then try to act like the people that actually support him are the ones against him.smh Oh well at least we're getting all the media attention we've been craving for.
