Jerry Richardson to Cam: No Tattoos, No Piercings

The undertone of this story is entirely racially based.

ESPN/NBC Sports have done an excellent job of sh*t stirring and contributed to this significantly.

Well people here always complain we don't get enough media attention...ha ha. I really don't see what the big deal is. Reality is this is a story only because there isn't anything else to talk about. The media always tries to label JR as some slow country bumpkin and this is the undertone in my opinion.

This whole story can be summed up by saying life isn't fair and people are treated differently.

yup. message boards and comments on stories (the cam thing yesterday shot up to top 4 in most viewed/commented within a matter of hours on PFT) are a great measuring stick for what's hot, controversial, interesting, etc.

The original pole got almost 70,000 votes.

I checked like 15 minutes ago, and Florio has already posted a similar article that is getting a lot of attention.

No I agree that this should be a non story, but ESPN is trying to turn it into something it isn't.

Is Cam offended? No.

that should be the end of it.

Eat sh*t and die, Mike and Mike.

They talked about this on First Down this morning...

Brought up Shockey and his tats and tried to make it racial.

I don't personally see the big deal but I can see JRs point that he wants a clean cut QB to represent the team. If you think that is something new to JR and the Panthers you must be new to the team fan base.

Now lets find something real and relevant to football, you know there is a game tonight.

I think the fact we signed a guy like Shockey makes the race card even more ridiculous. This is about being the face of the franchise v. being a player on a team. QB's are treated differently and this is the end of it. JR is a handshake kind of guy. We all know this but the general public thinks he walks around with a pitch fork and drives a 57' Chevy.

Colin Cowherd is generally an idiot but he was on point today talking about it.

You don't require the same things from Reggie Wayne you do Peyton Manning if you are Indy. Peyton is held to a higher standard. Cowherd has bagged on Romo for years.....backward hats belong to the TEs....not the face of the Dallas franchise.

true...but even with that, i don't see where JR said it was forbidden. saying "we don't want that" isn't exactly saying, "you get inked and pierced and you're fired/fined."

citing a preference is hardly stating a demand.

read between the lines if you want, but all you're going to do is get yourself worked up over something that has no bearing on how well this team does or any of your lives.

Oh I agree.....

Cam has choosen his own appearance which is different than the overwelhming majority of most African Americans in the NFL today.

Jerry basically just said he liked Cam's style....which is old school style. Makes sense. He said it in Jerry's way though.....which shouldn't be hard for our fanbase to understand yet we are helping fuel this fire.

I disagree - I think Cowherd is, indeed, a douche. However, he is one of the smartest guys affiliated with ESPN. He understands the sociological aspects of sports as well as the dynamic relationship it has with our world and society.

The only thing with him now that is frustrating is I liked him a lot more when he wasn't on ESPN as much. If he isn't careful, he could end up being one of the many ESPN personalities that gets overplayed and becomes a shadow of himself...think Chris Berman and Stu Scott, those guys now are just talking puppets who just say their catch phrases and offer nothing to an intelligent broadcast.

The thing about Cowherd is his forward, speak your mind attitude rubs people the wrong way. Especially, if he is speaking unbiased and truthfully about your team. He is a west coast guy (I think he is from Seattle), but has admitted on the radio that he can't talk about WC sports because there simply isn't a strong market for it.

I can understand what J.R. is doing here. The Hip Hop Movement killed the NBA. How many tattooed, braids and earring guys did you see in the Golden Age of the NBA when Jordan, Barkley, Malone and Olajuwon played? None. Until that freak Dennis Rodman came along...it just isn't good for business.

I think Cam is smarter than that, though.

ESPN really is having a field day with this though. From Mike & Mike, to First Take, The Herd & Sportscenter.

I love how certain idiotic talking heads(Bagless) want to bring up Jeremy Shockey to try & make it a race issue, but never mention the Panther's best WR who is also inked up his arms.
