What? This is ridiculous. He's an owner, not a dictator. If Cam turns out to be our starter for the next decade, I really dont care if he wants to get a tattoo or get his ears pierced. Other guys on our team have all that....why cant he?

Nice going JR. That's the way you set up your number 1 draft pick. I wonder if he included these things in his contract. I understand Cam is a grown man, but when you are invested in as heavily as he is, he would be dumb not to do as he is asked by of all people the owner.

I'd say it is all about image. Initial image any way. This was pre-draft, so the stipulations were set in place before we ever drafted him.

Plus, I think it's more like JR doesn't want a young rookie going out and getting crazy tattoos and piercings. Seems reasonable to me.

You could compare this to a lot of things that are required as part of a job, everywhere.

What commercial has Troy been in but a hair shampoo commercial?? Seems to me he only got that because of his hair and it is a spoof on his hair. I don't see him being the face of the franchise for Pittsburgh nor will he get lots of endorsements for lots of other things because of his hair. Then again Rothlisburger was the face of the franchise until he starting raping college students.

This is true and I know the fact that Cam is the face of franchise means he’s held to a higher standard. My only question was about the hair thing...I can understand the tattoos and ear rings.

Image matters, especially for quarterbacks. Besides, I doubt JR is the first and only owner to have a talk like this with a potential draft pick, he's just the first one to talk about it to the media afterwards.

Correct on the first part, wrong on the second. They drafted Clausen last year expecting him to be the franchise QB, and they said so last year. So why didn't JR have this same talk with him? Jimmy had as many perceived character issues as Cam did.
