The New York Giants have endured a rough 24 hours.

The team announced Tuesday that second round pick Marvin Austin tore his pectoral muscle. The defensive tackle will join first round pick Prince Amukamara on the shelf, and Austin is likely out for the season. (Amukamara is due back in October ideally.)

Austin had impressed onlookers at training camp and was part of New York’s deep defensive line. Their defensive tackle group isn’t as strong as the defensive ends, though, and this injury makes the gap wider.

The team signed defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy to add depth to the position.
