What does Cam have to do

Recommended Posts

We went to a Superbowl with a QB who was close to a 1:1 TD/INT ratio.

The great QBs and very good QBs often had that ratio or one close to it when started as rookie....from Sanchez to Manning. The somewhat good to the great......how is that deflated expectations?

Just seems like some on the board want to apply unrealistic expectations to Cam and if he doesn't hit those then he sucks.

Again if you all want growing pains, that's cool. I didn't--don't want them. I have to live with them now. So just because I don't Cam to have barely above sucking numbers, makes me unrealistic. If he's the real deal, he'll get W's and have decent stats. If ya'll want to asterisk this year, go ahead. I'm not making any excuses. Damn, I'm sounding like a hugger now.

No, no. You aren't understanding what he is saying. He didn't want a rookie QB, because he can't stand how they get a 'free pass' for playing like "crap."

He detests the notion of not holding a rookie to a Pro Bowler standard.

It isnt a free pass to play like crap....Peyton Manning's mom didn't pop him out as a great NFL QB. Peyton had to grow into it.....his rookie year was part of the process.

If you think a rookie should be held to the same standard as a vet Pro Bowl QB then that is retarded.

I could be wrong, but it seemed like what he meant is that since he didn't want a rookie in the first place, he wanted Cam to play much better than a rookie typically plays because he feels we should be trying to be competitive now... I think?

Correct

He detests the notion of not holding a rookie to a rookie and not average standard

Fixed.

Not going to happen.
So you all will be happy...err, satisfied with a 1:1 TD/INT ratio?

This is why I didn't want a rookie QB, deflated expectations based off perceived rookie limitations. Heck, I admit I'm at fault too. A veteran QB would be run out of town with a 1:1 TD/INT ratio or worse. Yet, we will 'accept' this with a rookie.

lots of good QBs have been INT prone even well into their career and they weren't run out of town. i'm sure it has been frustrating for their teams, but it has been accepted as well.

as far as rookie QBs go, don't forget that while peyton threw 26 TDs, he also threw 28 INTs. troy aikman threw only 9 TDs but 18 INTs his rookie year.

you just can't judge success on the TD:INT ratio for rookies anymore than you can for them at any stage of their career, really.

i found this that is a little interesting, imo.

the ones in red helped their teams get to the playoffs that year. some had positive ratios and some not so much.

anyone expecting a QB or any rookie to come in and play at the same level as a top vet is being unrealistic. just because they can't play right away at the top level doesn't mean that they should sit on the bench, though...esp. if there isn't someone distinctly better ahead of them. that's how fox ran things, but that isn't the best way to develop young players or grow a young team.

You are CORRECT sir.

Unless you are buying into the press' notion that we are a rebuilding team?

Well?

Well if you want a middle of the road QB every year then you can always pick up vets and avoid growing pains

If you want a true great franchise QB history shows you have to go through the growing pains and one developing.....if you want him for his prime years. Sure there are rare exceptions but you can't base things off those.

Ih he just gets through it. Progresses. And keeps his confidence it will be a success.

People who think he needs to complete 70% of his passes and throw 27 tds or else he is a bust need to get their head examined.

he is a rookie. He will play rookielific.

unfortunately it's hard to really call us anything else with the holes we have, the new QB, the new coaching staff... there was a point where I thought we'd be competitive this year but we took a different route, hoping for greater success in the future by having another "learning year," but this time with coaches a bit more dedicated to teaching.

Yes, he wants to apply unrealistic expectations.....Cam should be expected to play better than just a rookie......but not more than what a good rookie season is for a top draft pick. You draft players for what they will become....not what they will be year one.
