What does Cam have to do

I don't know if there has ever been a rookie QB to achieve a 2 to 1 TD to INT ratio. Sam Bradford didn't. Josh Freeman didn't. Ben Roethlisberger didn't.

I haven't checked them all, but I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment on this one.

Edit: After a bit of research, Dan Marino was better than 2 to 1. He is the only one I have found.

If it's roughly that, I'll be happy. As long as it's not 1:1 or worse. Okay, how about 1.75:1...say 14 TDs to 8 picks? I'd still be happy with that.

If wins are irrelevant, why the hell do they keep score? Who cares if he looks like Trent Dilfer, as long as he does his part to help us win games. This isn't a beauty contest.

I am looking forward to some of the responses in this thread. And hats off to Grits for having the balls to do so.

Simple, we are talking about what would it take for people to believe in Cam more, not what would make people believe in the team more.

He can win some games due to his skillset, but for him to be our long term starter, he needs to display true passer ability.

Judging Cam's development has no barring on the scoreline.

Improvement from what? There is no baseline to go off of. He's setting that baseline now.

yes, and I'd like to see him improve from his baseline to the end of the year...

imo there are certain things you can see in a guy's play regardless of who he is playing with. plus he's gonna have a decent offense with smitty healthy, so...

Smitty is aging man. He's even admitted he's lost a step.

If we had Gettis and Smitty, I'd think more of his situation... right now our WR corp is not good.

Wins and TDs is kinda irrelevant, as he could win games with the same style of football that won him games in college. That isn't sustainable.

I just want to see progression as a passer, improving his knowledge of the game and showing some ability to consistently hit receivers.

At the moment he is a raw physically impressive specimen, however he hasn't done anything to show he can be a long term starter in the league as a pure passer. If he can make that progression then I will be happy. If he can't, no need to give up, but I will be concerned we will be stuck with a QB who will never really be good enough as a passer to win consistently.

I guess it's not wins and TDs, it's how he gets them.

i view newton differently, but i'm looking for the same thing.

it's not about the Ws or even a ton of TDs and a small amount of INTs.

i want to see him improve throughout the season and show that he has a solid command of the offense and the playbook. i want him to be able to get us down the field and give us a chance at TDs. i want him to get the team rallied from behind. i want to see him handle criticism well and i want to see him have a short memory on mistakes and just get them fixed when they happen.

i just want to see him grow as a QB. you can't really put numbers on that and i won't.

this is a good post.

Because that happens all the time........

Twice in the history of the NFL is hardly the norm.

Should probably tell Peyton Manning ,Eli Manning, Troy Aikman and John Elway that they were busts for being picked #1 and not being Offensive ROY.

Cam may or may not work out but that is a pretty ridiculous standard to set.

It's not good but the addition of Olsen will help it.

Plus the addition of the coaching staff really should have a positive impact.

If I post this they'll say it's because I don't want to commit and I'm a troll and so on but it's exactly right.

Id like to see Cam have one of those "Cam" games where he throws a couple TD passes or puts up some big plays. I dont expect that every week for a rookie, but he needs to show flashes of his potential at some point this season.

yeah.....there does need to be few flashes of brilliance there. i have to see that he is at least capable of becoming as a pro what he was in college.

Not going to happen.

So you all will be happy...err, satisfied with a 1:1 TD/INT ratio?

This is why I didn't want a rookie QB, deflated expectations based off perceived rookie limitations. Heck, I admit I'm at fault too. A veteran QB would be run out of town with a 1:1 TD/INT ratio or worse. Yet, we will 'accept' this with a rookie.
